It's a hard one to explain! It's the type of joke you say with friends who know you don't actually think like that.

I think I know what you mean.  I was talking with my buddy Doug recently about, of all things, facial hair.  I'm Asian and have this ridiculous Fu Manchu mustache and goatee, and he was asking if it's a lot of work to take care of.  It is.  But if I knew somebody who could pull of such a look, I'd want to see them do it.  I started going on about how I know not everyone could do it, so I do it on behalf of guys who can't.  In fact, I would argue that if you're capable of such a thing, there's actually an "obligation" to do it.  The world needs such things.  I just started riffing, getting more and more absurd about it.  I said that guys who can grow impressive facial hair must do so; anything less would be an offense to the male population.  I thought it was obvious that I was way the hell out of line with such statements, obviously that's not how I really feel about it, and that was the "joke".

Except he didn't get it.  "But what about free will?" and "Do you really feel like that?" and "Wow, I had no idea!"  Oh Doug, you doofus.

The only offensive thing about it is that they used a picture of Ann Hathaway over Julie Newmar.  Now THAT'S offensive.

No...offensive would have been using Halle Berry.  Ain't NOTHING offensive about Ann Hathaway in that outfit.

Oooh, I'm just not a fan of Ann Hathaway.  She was ok in Brokeback Mountain, but generally, nope.   She's got a Julia Roberts vibe to her and that doesn't work for me.

Well...I was looking at it from a more prurient perspective, but I didn't really like the two of the newer Batman movies that I saw, so Anne in that outfit is about the most memorable thing.  While she was good in Les Miserables, I think she's best as a comedic actress.

And how dare you dis St. Julia?!

I'm right there with you on Julie Newmar. I don't know anything about Ann Hathaway, but based on nothing but how she wears the catsuit, she seems to hold her own pretty well. Newmar was curvier, and prettier, but there's nothing wrong with AH.

Bear in mind, too, that I spent my formative years watching Julie Newmar, Lee Merriweather, Yvonne Craig (and Shirley Jones and Susan Dey and Dawn Wells, and Jaclyn Smith among others) so that's what informed my young hormones, and largely what I find attractive to this day.  I love that classic beauty, that winning smile, that curvy look, all day long.

I can see it. I didn't mind her in Dark Knight Rises or Interstellar but something about Julia Roberts just comes across as insincere. . Like oh im so twee and ditzy. But you know

she's ultra high maintenance off screen.

I have to say that everyone you listed, I was way too young to notice. Susan Dey is ugly AF. And Shirley Jones?? What, no Agent 99?

would have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related

I was kind of young then, too, when those shows first came out, but it seems that either I was just wired that way or those made an impression during what I called the "formative" years.   When the hormones really did kick in, I was watching a lot of reruns (Channel 9 and 11 out of New York) rather than the first run stuff (Dallas, Three's Company, that version of M*A*S*H).  The only show I really watched first run at that point was Dukes of Hazard.

I never really watched Get Smart.  Now, Barbara Bain on Mission Impossible.......

Yeah...Shirley Jones struck me as an odd one to list.  And Barbara Feldon as Agent 99 was HOT AF.  I discovered a lot of those "before my time" shows when I was in my early teens, so I'm totally down with most of the names Stadler listed as being front and center during my "formative" years.

And I'm a fan of tall women and redheads, so Julia Roberts has been a celebrity crush for 30+ years.  If she's high-maintenance, then I'd be very happy to "maintain" her.

Lynda Carter was my first crush as a boy.  Hell even seeing her in Sky High brought back memories.

I actually thought Shirley Jones was hot.

Barbara Feldon... didn't care for the short "Veronica" hair cut.

And I forgot the two of the three most beautiful women on TV then (along with Jaclyn Smith, who I already mentioned):  Barbara Eden and Elizabeth Montgomery.    Yes please!

Who's Veronica?  But yeah...her long hair was better.

But still...

I think there was a recent Charlie's Angels discussion, but I'd rank at least Kate Jackson and Shelley Hack ahead of Jaclyn Smith, and Barbara Feldon over Barbara Eden and Elizabeth Montgomery every day of the week.  Same with Suzanne Pleshette from the original Bob Newhart show (before she permed her hair).

I think Elizabeth Montgomery takes the prize there. Ye gods, what a gorgeous woman.
