I've seen all three, so I can see that the names evoke the movies.  Is that it?  What does it have to do with a '90s boy band?

Nothing, and that's the joke.  It's a riff on all the memes that show a picture of some boy band or singer or other pop icon and says you should know who it is.  The picture looks like some 90's boy band, but it's the hobbits (like you've never seen them before!)

You mean Elijah Wood and Sean Astin and whoever played the other two comic relief hobbits?

As for the rest, maybe I don't look at enough memes, I guess.

You're not missing out on much.  I've seen more fake memes of this type than real ones.  But I did recognize the actors right away, which is crucial to getting the joke.

But as they say, if you have to explain it...

So we New Englanders are potentially in the path of a storm, Henri, that could be as strong as a Category 1 hurricane when it hits land on Sunday morning.

I absolutely LOVE my local weather-person, Heather Frank.  I don't mean that to be a pig - although she IS attractive - I mean I love her smarts, her enthusiasm, her pragmatism, and her perspective. There's no fear-mongering, there's no snarky "I've got great weather for you all!" bullshit, she's just a weather/meteorological nerd and calls 'em as she see's 'em.

And that sometimes leads to problems.  Certainly looks like Massachusetts is going to get screwed by this storm, eh?  This is an actual screen-shot from last nights broadcast:

(And lest ye make assumptions; this is our LOCAL Fox affiliate and has nothing to do with the nonsense on the cable news outlet).

And I never would assume you were watching fox, we all know you get your skinny from Newsmax

Edit-just checked the Times and they currently have Henri clobbering Stamford.

Not sure if anyone else will find this to be funny (and it certainly wasn't intended as such), but I chuckled.

It's funny because they're mutually exclusive and inclusive at the same time. If you own a truck you won't be interested in a synthesizer, but if you own a synthesizer you'll need a truck to move it.
Argument, the presentation of reasonable views, never makes headway against conviction, and conviction takes no part in argument because it knows.
