Ok, the Batman one... did the artist really need to write BAT BOY on the back of the kid's jersey? Did he think we would be confused and not get the joke otherwise? Sometimes they make the joke obvious to the point where it diminishes the humor.
I understand where you're going with this, but (1) bat boys often have "bat boy" on their jerseys (as per DA's photo), and (2) without the words, it wouldn't be clear that the person in the the baseball uniform holding a baseball bat wasn't a player.
I had not thought about (1). Did not know that was the case. (2) Having grown up following the game and playing in to high school, it would be obvious to me a small boyish looking figure holding a bat would be the bat boy.
Irrelevant, but one summer I was a bat boy for the, at the time, Oakland A's AA affiliate.
