I think - respectfully - you're overestimating "what you like" as far as what resonates with the zeitgeist. They may be "ok", but Seth Meyers - who I patently do not like - made a good point when he said (to Mark Hamill) that it's amazing all the things that we take for granted in our lexicon that weren't ever heard of before Star Wars. "Lightsabres". "The Death Star". "Blasters". This franchise - whether it meets your muster as far as film - resonates with a generation (or more than one, actually). I saw it in the theaters as a kid - I was 10 - with my dad. First time he ever took me to a movie. First movie I've ever seen multiple times in the theater. To this day, the original is - for nostalgic and personal reasons - my second favorite film ever.
In my office, I have a shelf on which is a small stereo to listen to music. Next to the player:
I have a set of shelves behind me for books. On there (next to my lamp I bought at the bazaar in Istanbul, and my Kiss Dollar Bill my mom gave me):
You can say it sucks all you want, but at some point we have to face that it lasted in the lexicon for SOME reason.
