I for one would welcome a 10/10

I don't see the harm in finalizing scores for individual submissions before moving onto others, so long as each one gets the attention it warrants.

I mean, I’m just writing down my thoughts and takes on a piece of music someone sends me. Shouldn’t really matter when that is done? I like to do it while I’m listening to the track so my take remains fresh. If that’s an issue with people, I can do it all at once in future rounds, I guess.

i think the concern is more over "have you listened to the songs enough to form a solid opinion on them"
that's what i'm worried about too, to be fair.

I'm curious how this first round goes because I sent over 25 minutes of music between two songs and I wanna know if I'll be able to get away with that multiple times. :lol

one of my submissions is 31 minutes and heretic didn't reject it, so
amusingly this is the one i might decide to change (unless it was picked for round 1)

i think the concern is more over "have you listened to the songs enough to form a solid opinion on them"
that's what i'm worried about too, to be fair.

My methodology so far has been to listen to both tracks, take notes on what I like / dislike, move on to something else, and then come back, listen again, and do a writeup from there. I feel like 2 listens is good enough for me to decide what I feel are the strengths and weaknesses in a piece, though I do admit that there have been artists who have grown on me over time. That being said, I probably don't have the time to listen to a track 10+ times like I have in the cases where things have grown on me.

As for time limits, I really don't mind anything haha. A lot of my favorite tracks are 20+ minutes.

yeah i don't think anyone is expecting 10+ listens  :lol for me i used to do 5 but switched to 4 in my last roulette and didn't really notice a difference in my opinions, i think 3 could be sufficient in some cases but 1 or 2 feels like a little too few to me. i dunno how many shadow and ariich and dacul and all are doing for their roulettes in the 20-min playlist style though

2 listens seems really low to me but some people absorb music faster than others. I don't do write-ups until I'm 100% familiar with the song which can sometimes take like, five listens or more. And even then sometimes I'll look back on the score I gave something and think to myself "man, why the hell did I rate it that?" :lol

Yeah, the last roulette I did had a decent few more songs, so I was basing it off of that, but I can probably manage to give every track at least 4 listens I suppose. I've definitely somewhat shifted my opinion before once things have grown on me, but for the most part, an initial impression tends to stick for a while, at least in my case. It's also different with a few songs vs. an album, too, because a lot of times I might not really find one particular song to be something outstanding, but the overall atmosphere of an album can be.

Yeah, I think it's fine as long as you're consistent and giving every song a fair shake. Some things do grow on you, but on the other hand you can't let the rounds take forever.

I've been doing 4 listens in mine, btw. Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday during work in the day and then once more on Saturday while I do the writeups. Seems to work pretty well so far.

Seems like a solid choice, then. I'll aim for 4 listens.

If it makes any difference, my roulettes have been 3-4 listens, where essentially the ones that get a fourth listen are those where I find it harder to decide how much I like it and therefore what score it should get. In a lot of cases I find 3 listens to be enough. Sometimes even after 4 listens I'm not that confident but at that point I just have to go with whatever I'm feeling as too many extra listens would feel unfair.

I've always found that works really well for me. I find it a fair balance between wanting a similar number of listens to everything, but not needing it to be identical and allowing myself an extra listen where there's more to take in or I can't decide what I think of it.

Ariich is a freak, or somehow has more hours in the day than everyone else.
I be am boner inducing.

In my latest roulette, using the same format as Rich did, I would run through the complete list one time, then I'd do one of two things: either return immediately to the artists that caught my attention or interest the most and play those through several times each before working my way through the rest, or I'd just pick groups at random and give them a few spins each which would amount to an hour or two at most on any one submission in a given day. Then I'd play them randomly throughout the week, and have them on one final time while I did writeups. Each day was kind of a different thing.

Yeah, and there's a pretty big difference in a song that's 4 minutes long, and one that is 21. That's just a lot more music to digest.

That being said, four seems fair to me, and though I'd love to spend longer with the music (and listen to the entirety of the albums these songs are from) it would make the roulette a lot longer.

I have always done 4 listens. But I generally take longer to wrap my head around a piece of music than a lot of people here seem to. I'm fine with whatever a roulette host considers sufficient to give a thoughtful hearing to all the songs.

Oh, also, everyone has submitted their songs, so I'm off to try and digest everything! All of the tracks I've listened to so far have actually been quite great, so there's going to be a lot of fine margins for this round I'd imagine, hahah. Hopefully I can have a writeup posted tomorrow or the next day.

Getting my writeups finished now, should be posted here in a bit. I am actually not familiar with any of the roulette games, so if you think those would be fun to employ here, shoot me a message so I can ask some questions, haha.

There's a pretty fun roulette game where the host gives me extra points. I'd recommend that one.
