Help me name my unborn son!
« on: July 05, 2020, 12:38:50 PM »
My fourth son is due in October and we're struggling to come up with name ideas. I'd love some suggestions!

My other three sons are Max, Ezra, and Eli. We'd like something that fits well with their names. Clearly we like short names and classic or old fashioned names.

I should also add that we're from Minnesota and have German and Scandinavian heritage. Not that we need names that fit those molds, but we're unlikely to choose a Hispanic or Asian name.

Any suggestions?

How about Mike?  I told my son if he has a son to name him Raylan after the character in Justified.

I'm not asking to share personal details about you, but I think a name should also sounds well with the surname. A name in itself might be nice, but roll off the tongue awkardly when pronounced along with the surname. There should also be some kind of balance with the surname, with a long surname a long name is overkill. Maximilian Longbottomscotch is tiring.
I use my sig to pimp some bands from Italy! Check out Elvenking (Power / Folk metal), Folkstone (Rock / Medieval metal), Arcana Opera (Gothic/Noir/Heavy metal) and the beautiful voice of Elisa!

Funny thing is, I came into the thread to specifically suggest Maximilian or Elyas. But he already has a son named Max and Eli.....

How about Chauncey. If you want to go the pretentious route.  :)

ohh my heritage is german and swedish, and i do genealogy, so I have to suggest one of my favorite old Svedish names from my genealogical archives: Axel.

edited to add: I also came across someone legit called Primus once. That's pretty badass. But I am sticking with Axel.

I have a cousin with a son named Axel, so I probably shouldn't use that one. But I do like it!

well i'm glad to at least not suggest something horrid. congrats on your impending new family member. :)

i'm trying to think of other names but that was the first that hit me and i rather like how it sounds with your other sons' names. but i totally get your reasoning.

I just don't understand what they were trying to achieve with any part of the song, either individually or as a whole. You know what? It's the Platypus of Dream Theater songs. That bill doesn't go with that tail, or that strange little furry body, or those webbed feet, and oh god why does it have venomous spurs!? And then you find out it lays eggs too. The difference is that the Platypus is somehow functional despite being a crazy mishmash or leftover animal pieces
