It has a shitty hook. I'll even pause the album I'm listening to to go look up Keeper now just to prove how much it sucks. God you people have wrong Helloween taste.  :lol

Helloween? I only think they're overrated in the context of power metal nerds. Outside of that, not overrated whatsoever. I think those two songs are overrated for sure though.

EDIT: Holy shit 3 minutes into Keeper of the Seven Keys and this is laughably bad. People actually like this wimpy boring foo-foo chorus? This song is crap. Helloween has soooo much better than this  :lol

By the way let me just say, I like how we derailed this thread about Metallica and Iron Maiden songs into Helloween discussion

Hell yes, if we're actually picking any title track from 1988, I'm going with Keeper Of The Seven Keys.

I love that song. How about Operation Mindcrime?

Songs:  Keeper > SSOASS >>> AJFA >>> O:M

Albums:  O:M > AJFA > Keeper II >>>> SSOASS

I thought exactly the opposite. The songs are halfway close, but Seventh the album blows Justice away.

Once you get past the title track and Moonchild, SSOASS is as weak as a used Kleenex.

Mindcrime > Seventh Son > Keeper/Justice Keeper isn't even that good, WTF, it's one of the most overrated Helloween songs. So is Halloween.

:rollin :rollin :rollin  Without thinking about it too much, I cannot think of a better song released in 87 than Halloween or in 88 than Keeper (objectively speaking, of course).

EDIT:  I thought about it a little more.  To the extent it is considered a single song, The Ivory Gate of Dreams is the best of 1988.

EDIT: Holy shit 3 minutes into Keeper of the Seven Keys and this is laughably bad. People actually like this wimpy boring foo-foo chorus? This song is crap. Helloween has soooo much better than this  :lol

Well...I will agree that Halloween is the better of the two songs.

Helloween? I only think they're overrated in the context of power metal nerds.

Yeah, it's not like they basically invented the genre or something....

That argument in defense of "they're not overrated, they're perfectly rated" is weak because that means Black Sabbath deserves to be called 'the greatest heavy metal band ever' or The Beatles 'the best band ever.' Doing something first does not mean you are objectively the best at it or can't be overrated. Helloween deserves a lot of praise and definitely helped invent modern power metal as we know it, but that doesn't mean I don't think some fan favorites are SUPER overrated... like those two epics.  :loser:

Or maybe the 99.9% of the fans rate those two masterpieces just fine and you just happen to not like them, like all of us don't like each and every single famous song of the universally recognized historical and most important bands  :D

I hope that my pointless smack talk and having fun is not being taken for serious elitism  :lol I have no problem with people liking those songs.

Went with AJFA. Overall, SSoaSS is a good song, especially the last instrumental half, but I just HATE that super repetitive chorus. Hard to believe that 'Arry couldn't come up with better lyrics for the chorus for that or many of the other songs he wrote from 1986 onward.
As a basic rule, if you hate it, you must solely blame Portnoy. If it's good, then you must downplay MP's contribution to the band as not being important anyway, or claim he's just lying. It's the DTF way.

Seventh Son is way better than AJFA IMHO.

Both amazing songs, but I have Justice in my head more than Seventh. Hats off to Lars for putting on such a clinic on this album. Hmm, I think Justice wins the album poll too, if there was one.

Look I’m a big Maiden fan but Seventh Son sounds like a tired band on the downslide. Still good, but they lost the eye of the tiger by ‘88. And as others have stated, that chorus...

...And Justice sounds like a band ready to kick some ass. The song’s only really flaw is that it’s about 2 minutes too long.

Gonna go with Seventh Son easily. AJFA is great but does get repetitive after a while and could have seriously benefitted from some editing.

Seventh Son is just far more multi-facueted and engaging, even with the really redundant chorus.

Justice.

7th son is too repetitive for me.

Other metal title tracks from 1988 that I dig:

Testament - The New Order
Riot - Thundersteel
Crimson Glory - Transcendence
Candlemass - Ancient Dreams
Napalm Death - From Enslavement to Obliteration
