Lots of choices.  I could have extended the list, but 20 options is enough.  What'cha got?

Voted for Sin after Sin, but it was a coin toss with Bat Out of Hell.

Mladen

Pink Floyd - Animals

But I'm hard put to find a better year than 1977. That list of albums is just unbelievable.

SwedishGoose

Other:     City Boy - Young Men Gone West

ReaperKK

I haven't listened to a lot of stuff from '77. Rush got by vote beating out PF. My rankings:

1. Rush - A Farewell To Kings - 3.5/5
2. Pink Floyd - Animals - 3/5
3. Meat Loaf - Bat Out of Hell - 2/5

Indiscipline

Pigs, dogs and sheep.

Among the best of the whole decade actually.

Tomislav95

Rumours, with A Farewell to Kings close second. Point of know return by Kansas is from 1977 as well, love that album.

Stadler

Going For The One is my favorite album of all time by any band, and The Stranger is top 10.  'Nuff said, I guess.

You pulled the trigger of my...

Da da da da,
da da da da,
da da da da da da da!

Love Guuuuuuuuunnnnnnnnn!

KevShmev

No option for Point of Known Return by Kansas? For shame. That album is too good to be lumped in to the "other" category.

That said, I will go with Animals by Floyd, but the ones by Kansas, Rush, Thin Lizzy, Steely Dan and Billy Joel are all right there as well.  The Priest one gets docked a bit because the middle of the album is pretty average.

TheHoveringSojourn808

gotta go with OTHER again

my pick: Television - Marquee Moon

others from this year missing from the list:

Dennis Wilson - Pacific Ocean Blue
Peter Gabriel - Peter Gabriel (Car)
David Bowie - Low
Iggy Pop - Lust For Life
Iggy Pop - The Idiot
Talking Heads - Talking Heads '77
Weather Report - Heavy Weather
Jimmy Buffet - Changes in Attitudes, Changes in Attitudes
Kraftwerk - Trans-Europe Express
Supertramp - Even In The Quietest Moments
Brand X - Moroccan Roll
38 Special - 38 Special
Tom Waits - Foreign Affairs
Neil Young - American Stars & Bars
Grateful Dead - Terrapin Station

of the list my pick is:

Steely Dan - Aja

one of the best years ever for music?

Trav86

Yeah this was a good year. Lots of albums I like but I'm going with A Farewell to Kings. It's the only one from this year that I still go back to.

Dennis Wilson - Pacific Ocean Blue

That's a good one that doesn't get talked about enough.

Dennis Wilson - Pacific Ocean Blue

Yep! It's stronger than most Beach Boys records and there is so much foreshadowing of soul/singer-songwriter stuff a lot of artists did years later. Super underrated record!! RIP Dennis Wilson

romdrums

From this list my top 3 would be GFTO, Animals, and then AFTK.  But, I think my overall number one would be Seconds Out.

TAC

This one was easy!

1. AC/DC-Let The Be Rock
2. UFO-Lights Out
3. Thin Lizzy-Bad Reputation
4. Alice Cooper-Lace And Whiskey
5. Kiss-Love Gun
6. Scorpions-Taken BY Force
7. Styx- The Grand Illusion
8. Aerosmith-Draw The Line
9. Rush-A Farewell To Kings
10. Riot-Rock City

NoseofNicko

Another great album not mentioned is Suicide's self-titled debut.

KevShmev

Styx's The Grand Illusion is another glaring omission. (I was not home earlier, but when looking at my iTunes of albums from that year, I realized it). That might actually be my favorite of the year over Animals.

Blue Oyster Cult's Spectres is another great one from '77.

HOF

Not a year I'm especially fond of. I'll say Camel's Raindances for other.

I'm seriously ashamed that I didn't notice this. Probably a top 10 album for me, and it didn't pop up in my tiny brain. I guess the only thing I can do now is go listen to it!

If you had been around for the first several of these, you'd know that I pretty much always miss one obvious album that should be on the list.  Unfortunately, in this case, I missed two.

I'm going to retry this.  Could I get a mod to lock this one?
