Six Degrees listening party on Twitter in 5!
« on: July 16, 2020, 03:55:36 PM »
The band will all be tweeting in real time as they all listen to the album.  Starts at 5 pm CST.  Just FYI.

I guess the band isn't overly fond of Misunderstood.  7 1/2 minutes into the song and the only tweet about the song from any of the five is Myung saying how much he loves the calm intro.   :( :(

Three songs in so far and no tweets yet from Rudess or Mangini.  I guess they are taking naps. :lol :lol

So...we can't listen along with them?  Just read the tweets?

They started The Glass Prison at exactly 5 pm CST.  They are about a minute and a half into The Great Debate now.

The different time zones confused me and I'm not going to play the album right now, but it's really cool/interesting to read these tweets as they come :metal
It sounds like, "ruk, ruk, ruk, ruk, ruk." Instead of the more pleasing kick drum sound of, "gzarruk, gzarruk, gzarruk, gzarruk."

Interesting that there was almost nothing said about TGP and no commentary on the lyrics.  It would be fun if MP tweeted at them for some of this.

Glad they still acknowledge this as one long song instead of separate songs, like some fans intend them to be

This was a real missed opportunity. I realize the band obviously wasn’t listening to it live, but I thought we would have gotten some more interesting tidbits. Coming off of Steven Wilson’s Twitter listening party, I learned a lot of new stuff.

More like wake me when the title track is over.

They released Solitary Shell as a single. It’s a song.

I checked in a few of them and didn't see any.  Very few meaningful comments overall.

Agreed.  I guess it's clear why none of them really have an active social media presence (from a dialogue and information standpoint), as none of them seem to be any good at it.  Like SystematicThought said, I came away from the Steven Wilson one last week about PT's in Absentia feeling like I knew a lot more about the album, but I didn't learn anything new about Six Degrees from their comments yesterday that I didn't know already.  Consider that the album is over 90 minutes long and here is how many comments we got from each member (only counting the ones they singed off by their initials):

John Petrucci - 9
James LaBrie - 7
Jordan Rudess - 5
John Myung - 2
Mike Mangini - 2 (this one is understandable since he didn't play on the original album)

Don't want to rag on the band too much but yeah, this and the previous one for SFAM were pretty pathetic. I don't know why they feel the need to do these if they have nothing insightful to say.

I mean they should really do a video of them listening like Portnoy did with Similitude

I get that Twitter has easy access to a lot of followers but it just doesn’t doesn’t seem to be the right forum for the band.

Kind of a missed opportunity, unfortunately.

The Steven Wilson one was great. Sadly, I haven't listened to Porcupine Tree in a while. Maybe this week is time for me to get back into it...

I agree! Mike said he was going to do that with one of the SoA albums but never did :(
