I've spun it twice but I don't remember much of it when it's finished. Admittedly, I was a bit distracted from simultaneously watching Doom Eternal play-throughs...although, it is strangely appropriate.

What is a Doom Eternal playthrough?

Doom Eternal is a relatively new video game (an interactive electronic form of entertainment) that came out on March 20th. You beat the shit out of alien demon monster things in really over-the-top gory ways with your hands and crazy guns and it's a blast, pun intended. A playthrough is someone playing through a video game. Quiz on Saturday at 9 AM sharp CST.

This got a full on belly laugh out of me too.  :rollin

And I have to agree with Parama Cyril about the diversity. There is quite an eclectic assortment of sounds for AtmoBlack.

Gave it another listen this evening, and yeah I like it, but I don't love it. Looking forward to whatever is next though!

Week 2

(Black Metal w/ Touches of Death/Doom and a bit of Atmosphere/Dissonance)

1 Perennial Waves
2 Theophagus Wounds of Earth
3 Interlude
4 ...And the Ever Watchful Clouds
5 Grove of Mithridate
6 Acumen Numinous
7 Hreilia

Once again a relatively new discovery for me, even though the album came out in 2017. This has a great dissonant Doomy vibe mixed with the Black Metal.

That's ok, but to be honest the back half of the album would probably be much more to your liking, or maybe not. :dunno:

OK..
Ran through Interlude. Ok.
..And The Ever Watchful Clouds-It started out like it could be interesting, but man it was really quite awful. :lol

Grove Of Mithridate was actually pretty cool though and easily the best song so far.

Week 2 doesn't seem to be going down so well. :lol Let's give it a go.

EDITS:

Hmm, I liked the atmospheric first few minutes of Perennial Waves, but when it kicks off it gets a bit... muddy maybe, for my tastes. The combination of dissonant music and production that isn't very clear or punchy doesn't really work for me.

Theophagous is ok I guess, seems to jump between some cool moments and some pretty blah ones (for the same reasons as the opener - at this point I suspect this album won't really be my thing).

Ever Watchful Clouds is just kinda there. I found it really monotonous to be honest.

Grove of Mithridate is similar to Theophagus, maybe a bit better overall as there's some melodic and atmospheric moments in the second half that are pretty good. Still not really my thing though for the most part.

Acumen was alright too, similar to Grove really. And then the atmospheric closer was good. Second half of the album definitely more interesting than the first, but it's all a bit eh overall.

Two songs in and, the dissonance is strong in this one. The atmospheric stuff is interesting but I prefer the more rocking moments, like the last half of Theophagous Wounds of Earth.

Loved Interlude. Evil as fuck.

Thought I had more to say about ...And The Ever Watchful Clouds, but TAC kinda summed it up nicely.

I mostly enjoyed Grove Of Mithridate but I'm put off by the drumming, I can't tell if it's intentional or just random pounding. Oh, and less cowbell!

The album finished strong with the last two numbers.

All told, I think I'd rather spin to this album than the one from last week, but I'm not really eager to relisten to either, at this point.

OK, just finished.

Acumen Numinous...That ain't working. It's like a giant granola bar where I have to eat through all the coconut, nuts, and other shit just to get a chocolate bit. Not worth it.

The title track? I mean what is that?

How would you guys feel about me doing 2 albums a week? I have enough stuff to take us through the year and beyond even doing 2 a week. Or should I just stick to the one.

Only reason I ask is to give you guys a couple of options to increase your chances of liking an album/artist. I know most black metal isn't the easiest music to really get into, so maybe 2 albums might be too much? I dunno......any feedback?

I could easily do 2 per week, your call!

EDIT: Seriously, I could easily do 2 in a day, no problem. But I'm hard to please; my favorite power metal is, well, light on the 'metal' to most people. My favorite black metal is less black metal than it is dungeon synth. etc.

I just want to say there is black metal I like because as per Cyril's recommendation I checked out The Density Parameter by Mesarthim (I think Pup sent me one of their songs recently) and omfg it's amazing.

I'm behind on this but just checked out Omega Centauri and ehh. The production was better than I expected but that was about the only good thing about that record for me. The other good thing is the last song which was listenable. I guess black metal in general might not be for me, we'll see.

I need a break before I listen to this week's album.
This first band is Soen very cool swingy jazz fusion kinda stuff.
