Don't get used to it, next week goes back to more Atmospheric Black metal, except the next one is going to be quite different from the other atmo black in the thread so far.

i listened to like two-thirds of it before realizing i'd had it on for like a half hour and had barely been able to actively pay attention to it at all, but i kind of expected that
melodic black metal + melodic death metal + power metal are usually just the same genre with different vocals/production as far as i'm concerned jhdfjbgsj

I've got a bit of extra time...I'm going in.
How'd you like it?

I know the songs are all on the longer side and may not move in as many directions as a lot of prog fans may like, but a major part of what I like about Atmospheric black metal is the almost hypnotic nature of the overall sound and this album very much works for me in that regard. Plus, I think the atmospheric ambient passages work extremely well here, despite what Cyril says  :)

:blush I tapped out halfway through the second song to work on some roulette submissions. I'll get back to it later today.

Yeah, I ended up getting distracted again. I was about halfway through the album and was really struggling to find enjoyment. As a result, I have no desire to revisit the experience. I'd rather move on to this latest selection.

Fair enough. And again, I realize my taste in black metal doesn't align with the tastes of this forum as much as I would like. I'm also intentionally staying away from the more popular choices because the majority here already knows them. I may throw in a few of the more popular bands if there are some of you that are complete black metal virgins. They might be a better jumping off point for some of you.

I understand that with both of you running roulettes it kind of takes up most of your listening. You just need to stop sleeping so you can injest more music! :tup

you're both insane for running roulettes where you have to sift through 5-6 hours of music a week every week, i can barely manage 1 hour

Well, we're listening to good music, and lots of it, pandaboi. Mostly. :loser:

Also in my first roulette I was doing roughly 10 hours of music every week.  :metal

I can't tell if this is you being ironic or if you're just burned out on listening to music  :lol maybe you should run a lead-free roulette like Kattelox is doing

oh no i've been finding plenty of killer stuff on my own, definitely not burnt out on music  :P
it's at least partially sarcastic as there was a lot of good stuff in my last roulette but, eehhHH
i think i've just moved past the need for roulettes. sure i get some good stuff out of them but the amount of effort i put into them doesn't feel repaid with the amount of great music that would justify that effort

It was an enjoyable listen.  Very melodic and a lot of cool stuff going on.  Even got a slight Agalloch vibe in places which was cool.

Week 5

Atmospheric Black Metal

1. From the Black Sun's Fire
2. Phantom Horizons Beyond
3. Return to Gates of Dawn
4. Through the Rite of the Stars
5. Transfixion of the Spheres
6. Psychic Abduction

This album is Spacey, Atmospheric, Epic, with a bit of a coldness to it. Fitting for the subject matter really. It has a great layered guitar sound that feels open and yet distant, like it's literally coming from the vacuum of space.

Yeah, it's a great album. I saw you post about them on Twitter last month and it reminded me of this band, so I just had to put them in the BMAW list. I remember getting their first album when it was first released based on the cover art alone, never having heard a single note of the band. I hated it at the time and didn't come back to the band until Cursed Storm of Ages was released, which is also awesome. Now I can go back and enjoy the first album, but it's not nearly as good as this one and the album that follows this.

I like the sound of it instrumentally, but wow the effect on the vocals does absolutely nothing for me.

Only listened to the first (real) track so far.
