So I have been on a major kick with black metal of all kinds the past couple months. I've been listening to the genre for over 15 years now, my first exposure being Enslaved, but I've really dug in to it a ton recently. In this thread I thought I would share a new album each week, whether a past favorite or something new I've discovered, with the rest of you. I know the majority of those who post here probably don't listen to any black metal and that's ok. However, I know a few who listen to a lot of black metal, like Cyril, and some who have started dabbling their toes into the black metal pool, Katt, TAC, and Ariich.

I will be covering the vast majority of sub genres in black metal (Atmospheric, Melodic, Progressive, DSBM, Symphonic, WarMetal, Folk, Blackgaze, Blackened Thrash, Post-Black, Viking, Gothic, and Ambient). I probably won't cover too much if any first wave and/or straight ahead black metal. I'm more into the mixtures of sounds.

How this will work is, I will post a new album each week (most likely on Saturday/Sunday), and then we can all listen to it (those that are interested) and discuss it. If you are so inclined, you can give it a rating out of 10. I plan to keep a record in this OP of each album and the cumulative ratings it gets (assuming people actually want to rate it. If any of you have any other ideas for the thread, please let me know.

Another point, I do have a list of albums I will be posting put together already, but if you have any albums you would like to suggest to be featured in the thread, just send me a PM and I will sprinkle in suggestions at random intervals.

Sound good so far? Good.

Derek Sherinian probably stands 10 feet away from the urinal, shoots from downtown, and announces loudly that he's making history.

Week 1

(Atmospheric Black Metal)
Tracklist
1 Ad Infinitum
2 Elusive
3 The Oort Cloud
4 I Am
5 Fallen
6 Samsãra
7 May Whatever Cleanses Me Take Form
8 A Mirror of Life

This is a relatively new discovery for me. It's a great sounding Atmospheric black metal. The track Elusive is a favorite of mine.

More than half of the albums will most likely be in the Atmospheric realm, but I do enjoy stuff in almost every other subgenre.

The ONLY kind of black metal I like is atmospheric. So I will check any and all Dolby Atmos BM. Cool thread idea Pup.
From a Mega Man Legends island jamming power metal to a Walrus listening to black metal, I like your story arc.

Oh man, there's no way I'm putting myself through an hour of THAT tonight. :lol

Since we have a week, I'm going to break it off in chunks.

I hit the first two songs, and I ain't gonna lie. That was pretty tough to get through. The first song was awful. :lol
At least the second one had some bits in the second half that were OK.

That's fine. I'm perfectly aware that these albums aren't all going to be for everyone. I'm sure you will find a few of them to like though. So don't give up on my thread if you don't like this first album. Check back next weekend.

I Am was ok but still pretty rough.

Fallen was definitely good though and easily the best song so far.

Brutally honest: I'm halfway into this and not having a good time. There is an angry toilet backing up and someone is hitting a very large tupperware a lot. I am waiting for the atmospheric part of the black metal to kick in but other than The Oort Cloud (which wasn't much of anything) it's not there. Of course there's still the back half to go.

I'll check back on whatever's posted next, of course. For my tastes, I'm more of a Summoning, Spectral Lore, Midnight Odyssey type atmosblack fan, as per the playlist you recently sent me.  :corn

EDIT: Okay, so yeah, not really a fan of this one unfortunately. I really love the band and album name, but it's too much noisy black metal and not enough contrast to make the noisy black metal meaningful to me.
