I mean, half of it was, so you were half right!

When it comes to electro-pop, I tend to be more interested in that which has either a lot of emotion or a bit of grit, but despite not really having either

 

Between this and your Dir En Grey debacle, expect whatever I send this round to be deliberately non-emotional.

To be clear, I wasn't calling it unemotional. But I definitely see it as taking more of a "chill vibe" approach than a heartfelt/emotional one, if that makes sense. But fair play if you don't agree, that's the great thing about music - we all feel it differently!

Nice, that was a great shout! Incidentally when I was reading up on this Atlas project these songs are from, I read his explanation of that track and it makes me appreciate it even more with all the thought and nuance he put in. Looks like he's only done those "how it was made" explanations for the Atlas II stuff, not Atlas I, so it doesn't seem to exist for other two songs.

That's fair, their other albums I don't like that much from what I've sampled but you might dig them, there's a bit more of melody to them. However, Planisphere might be one of their very best tracks, a massive 17 mins absolute banger. I was almost going to send only that track . Check it out if you've got time.

First impression: Intense and atmospheric – this is excellenter.

Final opinion: Alright so I love TAC’s songs from this album, but I love these even more. I can see that Resurgence is the album opener, and what a fantastic opener it is. It’s somehow very heavy, very atmospheric and very melodic all at the same time. I like this on a par with Swansong from Tim’s submission, but the difference here is The Carpathian Summit which is amazing and the best song of the bunch. It has everything that the others songs have, plus some really cool jazz influences which work surprisingly well alongside everything else.

Score: 8.6

I was thisclose to sending it, but I ultimately decided against it because it plods along for the for 9 minutes. I mean I love the song, but I felt like I was cluttering up my <20 minute limit with it.

It's happened so often, I think I'm experiencing the law of diminishing returns.

I said this to Chad already but I'll also say it here for everyone's benefit - with 2.5 rounds' worth of points left to play for, as far as I'm concerned everyone down to maybe around 1.5 points below the leader has a shot at winning this, and definitely the whole top 10 who are all within 1.0 points of each other. More than 1.5 points below is technically possible, but does seem pretty unlikely unless you really pull off a Shadow who leapt up 2.1 points and 16 places in two rounds of 10.

The scores are my least favorite part of roulette hosting, personally. I feel bad every roulette for the people in like the last 4-5 places, that's just how I am. So no matter what kind of scoring system I come up with I feel guilty about scoring people low, even though them's the breaks. I dunno. I try not to focus on it too much, and that's why I try to write writeups that talk about as many of the songs as I feel are necessary, and all the little things that I like, so that even those who score low get a sense of what I did enjoy and maybe not feel too bad if they lag behind.
