It took me all of 2 minutes to copypasta the contestants list and hangman and figure out who was left but I don't know any of those bands so I couldn't guess
From a Mega Man Legends island jamming power metal to a Walrus listening to black metal, I like your story arc.

Completed hangman now updated above.

And here's a reminder of first impressions:

Round 1 first impressions

1. My ears! [Puppies]
2. My brain! [Indiscipline]
3. My heart! [Sacul]
4. I feel dirty.
5. This is rather lovely.
6. Bonkers and very entertaining.
7. Very pleasant background music.
8. Dark, dense, moody and pretty engaging.
9. Very epic, and varied but also consistent in mood.
10. Intense and a lot to take in, but pretty engrossing as well.
11. There’s a lot to take in on first listen, but what a great sound.
12. Some very engaging and innovative stuff, if a little all over the place.
13. This isn’t a genre I often find that exciting, but when it works, it works.
14. A solid example of the genre, if perhaps not particularly a standout one.
15. This is exactly what I expected it to sound like… and that’s no bad thing.
16. Some lovely moments, but also others than sounded a little run of the mill.
17. Dark, dynamic and quite beautiful – early contender for favourite of the round.
18. This has a lovely warmth to it, and I liked this more than I might have expected.
19. A little on the cheesy side perhaps, but extremely enjoyable right from the first listen. [TAC]
20. Wasn’t sure the vocals fit the music at first, but was thoroughly enjoying myself by the end.
21. A style you’ve sent me before, but this feels more immediately engaging than it sometimes is.
22. Not super immediate for me, but the newer tracks in particular sound like they could be up my alley. [Cyril]

the amount of participants in this roulette is frankly absurd and then asking for 10-20 minutes of music per participant

That drives me fucking crazy.  Notwithstanding that you're paying for soccer fields and art supplies to begin with (our lottery goes to state education funds and what not, and any one person has almost zero shot of winning) there's no advantage to using your side-piece's titty measurements as your lottery number, so move it along!   :)

It's not about free time as I don't have all that much, but I can listen to music a lot while I'm working. This round is slightly over 6 hours of music (which as I've pointed out previously is slightly less than I was getting in my last two album roulettes). If I don't have many work meetings then between work and free time I can pretty much listen to that in a day.

I like your technique of splitting the options in half each time to narrow it down - good use of maths. This time you are not correct, though.

You've not been in any of my previous roulettes, so I appreciate that might make it harder to gauge what my first impressions might be to different things. Also my tastes and reactions are pretty weird as far as I can tell, so that generally makes it hard for anyone. Plus there are 22 options this time. :lol

Have I really not been in any of your roulettes? I was sure I had. Then again I forget I've sent a song ten minutes after doing so, so maybe my memory should be somewhat suspect.

How the hell is 22 Thy Catafalque? All of the songs are from the same album so there's no "newer" tracks. :lol

Well I'm guessing by "newer" you meant the second two songs. The first is easily my favorite of the three so idk if that impression bodes well for me :P

EDIT: Nevermind, Cyril was guessing two artists at once so I got confused

It is indeed one of those.

By way of update, listening is going well and I'm very impressed with this round. I think the average score is going to be on the higher end of averages from rounds in previous roulettes, which is impressive for so many submissions and such variety of music. Right now I'm feeling there are probably two clear standouts and no complete duds (which does mean people will be ranked low with decent scores - sorry!).

I must be pretty out of touch, from the list, I've only heard of 5 bands including my own.

I'm at 7, but I've only ever listened to three - mine, yours and Riverside.  Well, I did listen to Monica whats-her-tits because curiosity after Katt getting heaved over the top rope because of her.  I've (regrettably) listened to Nick Cave twice now.  Sweet I know, but not these tunes.  VdG... never heard a lick of them, but familiar enough with the name.
