Should the max number of artists in the EP round be increased from 4 to 5?

2nd attempt:

34, and then one of 38-40
That's a word salad - and take it from me, I know word salad
I fear for the day when something happens on the right that is SO nuts that even Stadler says "That's crazy".

6.   There’s some gorgeous, emotional stuff here.
11.   I think this might be the best thing you’ve ever sent me.
12.   There’s a really consistent vibe throughout this whole EP.
20.   There’s a blend of upbeat and morbid here that sounds compelling.
24.   This was a bit more varied than I expected, and the guitar work is nice.

can i be so bold as to guess this one? i dunno but i removed 14 & 15 then halved the list in my favor again

Not 11, but again it's still in your narrowed-down list.

There are only a few of them left - want one last guess?

20 it is!

Keep in mind I hadn't read anything about the theme for that first impression (and didn't even know what all the songs were), as requested, so I'm actually quite impressed with myself. Or perhaps with you. :lol

Alright I'll take some guesses

EP first impressions
1.   Powerful, proggy and very emotive.
16.   Not yet convinced by the ending, but the rest sounds excellent.
27.   There’s a lovely ambience to half of this, and a great energy to most of the rest.
28.   Half of it sounds pretty awesome, although the other half is a lot less interesting.
31.   Nice mix of epicness, atmosphere and groove that somehow doesn’t feel disjointed.
44.   There’s a nice variety of styles but it’s incredibly consistent tonally, which makes it feel very convincing.

EP first impressions

3.   Your good run seems to be continuing.
6.   There’s some gorgeous, emotional stuff here.
10.   It reminds me of a couple of other artists I rather enjoy.
11.   I think this might be the best thing you’ve ever sent me.
16.   Not yet convinced by the ending, but the rest sounds excellent.
18.   Almost every single thing about this is EXACTLY what I expected.
22.   I’m not sure I love all of it, some of the tracks are maybe a little dull.
25.   It’s all perfectly enjoyable, but perhaps a bit middle-of-the-road to my tastes.
30.   One of these artists sounds so much better than my previous experience with them.
34.   The middle part of this is solid enough, but the beginning and end are really fantastic.
36.   There are some great moments but it doesn’t sound as consistent or coherent as I’d like.

Are both of my among these?

Mine could be:

2.   This seems like a bit of a mixed bag.
4.   I’m enjoying the fun, energetic metal here.
16.   Not yet convinced by the ending, but the rest sounds excellent.
18.   Almost every single thing about this is EXACTLY what I expected.
21.   Everything sounds enjoyable and talented but not much stands out.
22.   I’m not sure I love all of it, some of the tracks are maybe a little dull.
24.   This was a bit more varied than I expected, and the guitar work is nice.
25.   It’s all perfectly enjoyable, but perhaps a bit middle-of-the-road to my tastes.
26.   Overall, there’s some really good, crunchy stuff, but the quality isn’t consistent.
28.   Half of it sounds pretty awesome, although the other half is a lot less interesting.
29.   The flow feels kind of disjointed, but I do love the theme that binds it all together.
30.   One of these artists sounds so much better than my previous experience with them.
33.   There’s a couple of duds, but the rest is very cool and kind of unique to this roulette.
34.   The middle part of this is solid enough, but the beginning and end are really fantastic.
36.   There are some great moments but it doesn’t sound as consistent or coherent as I’d like.
39.   It’s fairly heavy and stylistically consistent, but there’s enough variety too to keep it interesting.
41.   It’s very varied, which is exciting although after one listen I’m not sure how well it all fits together.
43.   There’s an element I’m not yet sure about on its own, but it seems to balance with the rest of the EP.
44.   There’s a nice variety of styles but it’s incredibly consistent tonally, which makes it feel very convincing.

Some moreso than others.

You are correct with #40! But your other one isn't any of the others there.

Third and final shot ... #10.  Since Chronicles Project is a clear ode to Kamelot, and with Tom Englund on the mic, Epysode resembles Evergrey.  If not, then three strikes and I'm out.  I'll wait for the list of options to shrink before guessing again.

That's the best I can do without pure guesswork.  :)  I sent some fairly polarizing work; not so much the mothership, but the individual singers' solo stuff is very "love it or hate it".

Okay, not too bad. I agree that the last track is the least-fantastic full song in there, but I still think it makes for a great ending. Those strings that come in at the very end are heavenly! Hence the "Ascend" in the title. :)

I've listened to a few of y'alls EP's and I gotta say, there is some quality work here. :metal

Hi lads, sorry for extended period of silence, been on childcare duty all morning.

27 and 30?
Returning to guess 8 and 29.
You are both correct with one of your guesses! 27 is Sacul and 8 is Shadow.

I know right? It's this pesky lockdown. :P

I've been pretty heavily reliant on being able to listen to music while working to have managed to run this roulette, I have to say.

Rather than reveal all impressions at once just yet, I'm going to accept people identifying their impression within a batch of 6 guesses. I think some have already done that without me revealing them, so after dinner I'll work back through and update those ones - but more guesses welcome!

I'm not sure if I can guess anymore.  I'm flabbergasted that Tim knows who Jude Law is in the Walrus's Roulette. It's knocked me for a loop. :lol

From a Mega Man Legends island jamming power metal to a Walrus listening to black metal, I like your story arc.

I think you did beat me, I don't want to guess because I think I've got two negative ones.
This first band is Soen very cool swingy jazz fusion kinda stuff.
