Trying to get my head around the idea of there being more judges than players - it's hard enough trying to please one host but the game would be trying to please as many judges as possible.

Treat it like a jury. The evidence (music) is presented and then the jury submits their votes via PM.

I am quite torn between asking to be a judge or asking to participate.

The scores are my least favorite part of roulette hosting, personally. I feel bad every roulette for the people in like the last 4-5 places, that's just how I am. So no matter what kind of scoring system I come up with I feel guilty about scoring people low, even though them's the breaks. I dunno. I try not to focus on it too much, and that's why I try to write writeups that talk about as many of the songs as I feel are necessary, and all the little things that I like, so that even those who score low get a sense of what I did enjoy and maybe not feel too bad if they lag behind.

Shadow's rise is amazing btw. I wouldn't even be mad if he beat me

Shadow's Rise sounds like a good title for a generic fantasy book.

So thinking about this, let's say there are 4 judges. Each of them submits 30, 40, 50 bands that are banned. That would create a master list of say 100 bands.

Maybe if one if the judges had been a submitted band previously in a roulette, they could abstain from scoring. That would eliminate combing through old roulette threads for good scores.

The other thing I'd do is to make sure you have a Fogey, a Young Gun, and a middle guy (like your age) on the panel.

I think it would be less them trying to seriously please the judges and more them sending stuff they themselves enjoy the most and us roasting the shit out of them.

As for the banlist idk, just pick a bunch of bands that are popular / well-known on here

I'll out myself now, I was going to send Rich a trifecta of my three favorite symphonic metal bands, but 1) I already sent him a whole Fairyland album in a past roulette, 2) I know power/symphonic metal isn't his thing, and 3) I wanted to surprise him with something else. And there's definitely a surprise on mine. I bet one of my 2 artists has never been sent in a roulette.

Nah I dunno, you personally haven't had much luck in my roulettes with power metal, but there's some music classified as power metal or symphonic metal that I love (BG, Borealis, Kamelot, Sonata Arctica, After Forever, Nightwish, some Angra, some Helloween, some Within Temptation), and some has done pretty well in my roulettes, so I just think that statement was too broad a generalisation.

I mean, there is almost exactly a week until the EP deadline, so it depends how long you want to spend on it really, but yeah I'd recommend people make a start if they haven't already, and if they have time to do so.

I just feel I need to put an end to this "Rich hates power metal" nonsense. A couple of roulettes ago there was lots of "don't send Rich prog metal" but that thankfully seems to have gone away now and if anything gone the other way.
