Lonely Robot, the project masterminded by producer, guitarist and singer/songwriter John Mitchell (Kino, Frost*, Arena, It Bites), is currently finishing work on their fourth full-length album due out later this Summer.

During the campaign for their acclaimed last album ‘Under Stars’, a full animated film was created by Crystal Spotlight and screened at two very special cinema events in the UK. Now the full visual accompaniment is available to stream, and you can watch it now here: https://youtu.be/slyM9ZUzr6U

John comments: “It has always been an ambition of mine to have a full length visual accompaniment alongside an album of music I have written. With Under Stars and the help of Miles at Crystal Spotlight, this dream was finally realised last year. I'm very proud of the results and I'd like to thank Miles for all his hard work and patience in bringing this to fruition. I hope you enjoy it.”

‘Under Stars’ featured drums by long-time collaborator Craig Blundell (Steven Wilson, Steve Hackett), plus bass contributions from Steve Vantsis (Fish). All other instrumentation on the album was performed by Mitchell himself.

John comments of the album: “It is the final part in the astronaut trilogy, and was recorded over an intensive month and a half period. This time I wanted to reference my love of 80s synthwave pop a little more – so beware the 808! The title is derived from the belief that we as humans spend far too much time not noticing the beauty around us and far too much time tethered to technology.”

‘Under Stars’ was released as a limited edition digipak CD (featuring 3 bonus tracks), gatefold 2LP + CD & as digital album. Order now here: https://lonelyrobot.lnk.to/UnderStars/

'Under Stars' is the final album in a trilogy for Lonely Robot, John Mitchell's visionary project. This began in 2015 with the 'Please Come Home' album and continued two years later with ''The Big Dream'.
“I always saw this as a trilogy, and it feels like the third part of the Lonely Robot master plan has reached a natural conclusion.”
As with the two previous albums, there is a theme running across the songs here, as Mitchell explains. “On 'Please Come Home', the theme was about the idea that life on Earth didn't originate from this planet, while for 'The Big Dream', I was really giving everyone the benefit of Zen musings according to John Mitchell. This time things are a little more down to earth. What I am doing is looking the millennial generation, and the fact that kids today are so tied to their phones and to technology. They really have no clue what is actually going on around them, and I find that worrying.”

John Mitchell is a man with a rich musical heritage and history - from musician and vocalist, to songwriter and producer. With bands like Arena, Frost*, Kino, It Bites and Lonely Robot, to name but a few, Mitchell has left his mark on the current progressive rock scene and has been involved in dozens of recordings. He is also a respected producer & mixer, running Outhouse Studios in the UK and working with artists as diverse as You Me At Six, Enter Shikari, Alter Bridge, Asia, Don Broco, Funeral For A Friend, McFly & much more.

Caligula’s Horse had previously announced their first ever North American tour, which has unfortunately had to be postponed to January-February 2021. Look out for more details on that soon.

Played this at work today, couldn’t watch the visuals but enjoyed the music. Might play it on the big tv tonight.

"Lonely Robot, the project masterminded by producer, guitarist and singer/songwriter John Mitchell (Kino, Frost*, Arena, It Bites), are set to release their fourth album ‘Feelings Are Good’ on the 17th July 2020, a fresh start following the conclusion of the ‘The Astronaut Trilogy’.

John comments: “‘Feelings Are Good’ is a bit of a departure from the first three Lonely Robot albums or ‘The Astronaut Trilogy’ as it has now lovingly become known.
On ‘Feelings Are Good’, I wanted to explore more personal themes and the songs are very much about individual experiences and narratives that I believe had been the cornerstones, good and bad, to my life. The long tall and short of it is that we’re back on planet Earth, and I have a personal lyrical axe to grind!”

‘Feelings Are Good’ will be available as a Limited Edition CD Digipak, Gatefold 2LP+CD and as Digital Album in both 16 & 24 bit versions (all including 2 bonus tracks). The artwork is once again by Paul Tippett / Vitamin P (Black Star Riders, Frost*), and John says of the cover: "The artwork is meant to be a little disturbing. The closed eyes and taped over mouth are supposed to represent how people are very guarded with their emotions and what better way of emoting them than through the windows to the soul and the smile?"

The full track-listing is as follows:
1. Feelings Are Good
2. Into The Lo-Fi
3. Spiders
4. Crystalline
5. Life Is A Sine Wave
6. Armour For My Heart
7. Suburbia
8. The Silent Life
9. Keeping People As Pets
10. Army Of One
11. Grief Is The Price Of Love
12. The Silent Life (Orchestral Version)
13. Crystalline (Orchestral Version)

Lonely Robot will hit the road in December 2020 for some select headline dates, and you can find a list of those below:
Dec 13th  Islington Assembly Hall, London, UK
Dec 16th  Riff, Bochum, GER
Dec 17th  Das Rind, Rüsselsheim, GER
Dec 18th  Muziekgieterij, Maastricht, NL
Dec 20th  De Boerderij, Zoetermeer, NL"

New album details!

Not for me, I've been waiting to hear more details about this fourth album after it was hinted at last month:

I guess a lot of folks missed that part! At any rate, I'm excited for more Lonely Robot, and to hear where this album goes now that the Astronaut Trilogy is done. Can't wait to pre-order the LE Digipak, though I am sad that he doesn't include three bonus tracks like the other three albums (all of which have 11 songs, with 3 bonus tracks, oddly enough).

I thought that he was going to scrap the project after finishing the trilogy. This is much better.

So much this.

I'm so happy we finally have a Lonely Robot thread! John Mitchell has been involved in one of my favourite albums of the year, for at least the last 5 years straight. Lonely Robot's three in 2015, 17, 19, Frost*'s Falling Satellites in 16 and Kino's Radio Voltaire in 18.

Anyone heard the latest single yet? It's a beautiful song. I think it is a good follow up to the last album, I hear some elements in common with what they put out in Under the Stars.

The new album is quite good. The first couple of songs threw me off a little bit, but then it moves towards the classic sound of the band. It is interesting how this album sounds like a progression from the last one. It has some elements that bring Under the Stars to mind, it has some of the usual LR sound, but it also goes into new directions. I love that John is always exploring new sounds without losing what makes him him.

Heard a bit of the new single, and it sounds like it's at the same tempo as all of the rest of the catalog.  The novelty wears off after a while.

Digging this album a lot but I'm a big John Mitchell fan. Love the Into the Lo-Fi track..very reminiscent of Kino with a very catchy chorus. Suburbia is the other track that stands out.

Goddamn this is a good album.  Much more enjoyable than I remember the past efforts being.  Very reminiscent of It Bites output.

Should a casual fan of Kino bother with this?  ;) If there are tracks like Loser's day parade and All you see, I might give it a shot.

Hard to say... I haven't listened to Kino in a long time.  It didn't quite scratch my itches at the time.

You should. I quite like all of the albums and I think they are varied enough that you'll find something you will like, especially in the first two.

I'm digging this one a lot, more than the previous 3 outings. Felt like the concept on those previous 3 got dragged a bit.

I really liked the first one quite a bit.  The second one never grabbed me and I almost didn't add this one to my Amazon.com queue but decided to give him another chance and I'm glad I did.  This new one is clearly the best of the three.

I remember that Under Stars was completely forgettable.  Please Come Home was good.  I can't say I remember what I thought of The Big Dream.  Might have to give that a spin to remind me.

You realize there are four Lonely Robot albums? Please Come Home (2015), The Big Dream (2017), Under Stars (2019), and Feelings Are Good (2020). I assume you're talking about Feelings Are Good and not Under Stars.

I liked it well enough. I came in to Lonely Robot just before the release of Under Stars, so for me, the first three albums kind of blend together, and when I listen to LR, I typically just binge all 3 of the initial trilogy together. Can't say I dislike any of them more than the others, but at this point in my listening experience with the albums, none of them stand out too much for me.

Under Stars does contain my favourite LR song, The Only Time I Don't Belong Is Now. What a chorus! It's soaring and it gives me goosebumps every time I hear it. I also really like When Gravity Fails.

Simple yet touching. I don't think he gets the recognition he deserves. He is an all around great musician. Maybe he needs to team up with MP to get some more attention (this is only half a joke).

I got around to watching the Police cover last night, and it was just top-notch! It got me in the mood to watch a few more of his videos, including his fantastic cover of "Heroes". I honestly would buy a cover album from him, he is just THAT good to listen to - definitely one of the underappreciated/underrated musicians in the prog world these days, but his work with Frost*, Kino, and his Lonely Robot albums have been some of my favorites over the years!

Lonely Robot have announced that they will release their latest studio album, A Model Life, through InsideOut Music on August 26.

The new album, the band's fifth studio release, follows 2020's Feelings Are Good, and is the band's most personal release to date, concentrated around the break-up of a long-term relationship of mainman John Mitchell.

“Making A Model Life was very much a lifeline and indeed wake up call at the end of a particularly personally challenging couple of years," Mitchell admits. "Creating it made me realise that ultimately, life is impermanent and the one true thing that gives me a focus and anchor is and has always been music. Long may that be the case.”

A Model Life will be available as limited CD digipak, a gatefold 2LP+CD & as digital album. You can view the new album artwork below.

Pre-orders start on the June 24.

Exciting news! Been wondering if/when John would release another LR album!

I'm not at all familiar with John's work, even though Arena and Frost* have been recommended to me over the years. I am, however, familiar with Kino and I especially enjoy their shorter, catchier songs. Is Lonely robot anything like that?
