Fear Inoculum was released one year ago today! How has it aged for everyone in one year? I still have it comfortably at 3rd out of the 5 albums.

Depending on the day it could be my favorite Tool album. FI definitely took the longest to grow on me but I wonder if it's because I wasn't listening to Tool much leading up to the album. The album sounds the best out of all their albums and I think the song writing is tight and well done. Sad that it took them as long as it did to put it out.

After listening to it again, It is a really good album. It is a bit sad it took 12 years.

Pnuema is the best out of the bunch. It's a really good build up wise. The bass drums drive the song for me, and the Drums in general take the lead in the song, even having a drum solo with the bass as a foundation without guitar at all really.

Invincible has great Bass following the Drums, and the Vocal effects on the soft Ponce De Leon part sound cool.

I'm really enjoying the bass on this album, and the intro to Descending is awesome. I like the effect the bass, guitar and vocals give off in the "Free Fall...Infinte" section.

All these songs would be amazing live.

And those low notes in Legion Inoculant...  :o :omg: Those were literally my eyes in my car.

I love how Pneuma builds over the course of the song.

But the all out powerchords need more cymbals I think - first time that section happened - it felt a bit flat.

The section immediately after " Sun Becoming..."

-----

Culling Voices is my fave as like I said - it sounds the least Tool By Numbers on the album. And it doesn't instantly remind me of another Tool song.

I still haven't downloaded the extended version of the album.  I guess I should look into that.  I have the download code and all.

The album is on Spotify if you haven't heard the segues. They're nothing special.

MockingBeat is such a joke track.

I paid $120 for the CD so I have the unique code to download it.  Just never bothered cause I love the album as it is.

I wonder why they decided to shove the segues on and make it too long for a CD ?

Because it took so long ?

The album is just fine with just 7 tracks and it's still 80 mins - which is the usual length of a tool album more or less and would just about fit on a CD.

Even if it was just the six actual SONGS it's still 75 mins.

Maybe a carrot for some to get the physical copy.  Although as you said, the extra tracks are fully available regardless.

I actually found it easier to listen to the album with the segue tracks.

Also this interview..

Quote
"Over-10-minute songs, those are big bites to chew, so we are always trying to mix it up, like, put some little tidbits. It's an opportunity for each and every one of us to do something in between before we have to go into another 13-minute extravaganza or whatever.

"So it was kind of, to me, like some of these old prog records, like, 'Okay, here's the intermission.' There's a lot of heavy shit, this record is, like, really a lot of sevens and stuff, so I wanted to put the time signature into seven and do the same sort of thing.

Yesterday I drove seven hours and I just put all TOOL albums in one playlist. And yes, I continuously listened through all of them.

Lateralus is such a beast of an album. Every time when you think there can't be more of this quality to follow, they shove another song like Tricks & Leeches or friggin Lateralus down your throat.

10.000 Days... wow... Rosetta Stoned is out of this world. That "Overwhelmed as one would be"-finale is just graceful. I don't even know how to describe this album. I still can't decide if this one or Fear Inoculum is my favourite Tool album.

I managed to roll onto my parking spot at home during the last 40 seconds of 7empest, perfect timing. My ears were ringing, but I just had to remain sitting for another minute or so, completely in awe  :lol What a band.

Also is Fear Inoculum the weakest album opener ?

I think so.

After 13 years It was very underwhelming. Sounds like a Lateralus leftover.

I like Fear Inoculum even though it's a bit of a slow burn. It doesn't beat Vicarious or The Grudge but I'd take it over Intolerance and I think maybe even Stinkfist - which I still love.

My ranking now after listening a few times

Culling Voices
Pneuma
Descending
Invincible
7empest
Fear Inoculum
Chocolate Chip Trip (Although it's neat to know Danny did it all in one take)

I'd say so. But it's good that they put the weakest track first, it just sucks it's 10 min long though.

Honestly, I think Fear Inoculum is my favorite song on the album. Then again, I only really know this album, so I imagine the song is probably a lot different than what most TOOL fans would be used to.

That honor goes to Culling Voices...

Pretty similar...

Descending
Fear Inoculum
7empest
Choc Chip Trip

...By one take I assume he did more than one pass at it but did it in full each time.

TOOL Album Openers

1. The Grudge - Nothing can beat the way this album / Track starts

2. Stinkfist - Almost as good. Weird almost mono production but great song

3. Vicarious. Stinkfist part 2 but with massive production

4. Intolerance

5. Fear Inoculum

6. Sweat

The Grudge is really their greatest album opener. And one of the greatest openers I know. Whenever I listen through this song I have to laugh and say to myself "well, this was only the friggin opener, let's see how the band manages to keep up with this level during the next 70 minutes"  :lol

I think as an album opener I would rate The Grudge over Vicarious but just as a stand alone song Vicarious is better IMO. It has maybe their best main riff for me and it's in my top3 Tool songs and might only be beaten by the title track on Lateralus.

Gibson announce the ADAM JONES AGED SILVERBURST CUSTOM LES PAUL signature.  $6,000

If EPIPHONE do a version I might look into it because I really really really want a Les Paul Custom in Silverburst but not for £6k

This is a beautiful looking guitar. But I'm more of a lead player than a rhythm/riff player like Adam, so I won't buy this one.

Also, I don't have 6000 fucking dollars.

If they do an EPIPHONE one i'll look at it - but i'm still hoping Epiphone do a 2021 Inspired By Gibson Les Paul Custom in Silverburst

because the 2020 Inspired by Gibson Epiphones are stunning. New headstock - upgraded look and specs. They're gorgeous.

so it's like a brand new Gibson without the faded-to-green vibe.

I messaged Epiphone on their instagram if they were doing this and they replied

" Be patient....we promise..."

Which is either a hint about the Adam Jones sig or they are doing a Silverburst Custom based on a Gibson.

That's was a unique way to promote a guitar and introduce a new song and music video.

The beginning with the astronaut is like telling the story of searching for the wood for the body of the guitar, the Forrest within the Guitar Build.
