I have an unofficial pressing of an LP featuring the 5 songs. Of course, it's not mastered for vinyl, but the sound is still pretty good. I found it in some small record store in Dresden for 18 bucks. It's not available on Discogs though, since it's prohibited to sell (probably by Tool).

Wow that's really cool. I have some Tool vinyls myself but as you said they aren't mastered for vinyl so while the record looks nice, it sounds shitty.

If the quarantine lasts long enough for them to finish it, the rest of us won't be able to afford it. Assuming it ever gets released.

Well, Danny will be 79 by then so we shouldn't expect much in the drum department.

Bringing this over here, where it belongs.

K-Boy!

Hey, speaking of Adam Jones, you need to pop over to your Tool thread and give us your thoughts on Fear Inoculum.

I haven't heard it but I imagine it's like every other Tool record: it sucks! :lol

Edit: my arrogant self thought that was a request to me omg  :rollin

I don't really like anything before Lateralus.

I put on Ænima on a bus ride to work one day and once you realise that nearly the whole album is mono - you get tired of it very quickly.

Seriously why have all guitars bass and vocals in the middle ?!

it's so tiring to listen to.

Nah, it's fucking amazing.
Indeed  :metal :2metal: :letam:

Truly fucking amazing! :metal :2metal: :letam: :jingleboy:

Nope. Adam really is limited as a guitar player and he's used up his entire bag of tricks in that song and I really don't need to hear

A - - - - 3 - - 5 - - -
D - - 3 - - 5 - - -

One more time.

Listening through Fear Inoculum the first time was like " Oh this is just [song x] but not as good "...

or

" Oh it's that riff again "

hrmm let me do a ranking since it's been a while:

Albums.

1. Lateralus
3. Fear Inoculum
2. 10,000 Days
4. Ænima
5. Undertow
6. Opiate

I actually hold Undertow and Aenima at the same level. My initial thoughts of FI was echoing what Kotow said where it rehashed the same ideas but with more time to marinate FI really came into it's own. I love the album.

The production on Fear Inoculum is stellar. Every instrument sounds fantastic and nobody is fighting for space.

The guitars aren't *quite* as PUNCHY as 10,000 Days though but it's fine.

It just means you can turn up F.I. without getting as much fatigue.

That's been my issue with Tool for some time. To me, it sounds repetitive. Although there are some songs that I absolutely love (not in this album, though).

10,000 Days
Lateralus

Fear Innoculum
Aenima

Undertow

Opiate

Fear Inoculum Ranking:
Descending
Pneuma
7empest

Invincible
Fear Inoculum
Culling Voices

Chocolate Chip Trip

I had Pneuma and 7empest at the top, then listened to the album again to cement my rankings and realised that actually, Descending is probably my favourite  ;D

Descending is graceful. I love how after the first half of the song, Maynard confidently leaves it to the band to bring it home. As if he's all "alright guys you got this, I'm gonna powder my nose".

Exactly. It’s my favorite song on the album, I love that unique structure. Maynard carries the first half: says what he needs to say (with a great performance), and is out!

Alright let's do it:

Lateralus
Fear Inoculum
Aenima
10000 Days
Undertow

I was actually very tempted to put Fear Inoculum as the nr1 but I still feel it's 'too soon' to do it. Lateralus to me is consistently superb as a concept album and works very well all the way through. 10000 Days would be over Aenima because I love the production and sound of it (the guitars sound really good and the drumming hits you in the face and the bass is actually a standout) however it drops off in the second half for me and the best songs are all in the first half. Aenima is a bit like Lateralus only I think the latter pulls it off better. Undertow is a solid debut. Fear Inoculum for me is the best of Lateralus (an album where I really like every song) with the (imo) improved sound design of 10000 Days - so in theory I should place it as #1, and maybe I will in the future - but it's always hard comparing an album that's been with you for a looong time with a new one.

In terms of song ranking I think 7empest, Pneuma and Invincible would be in my top 3, the title track very solid in the middle, then followed by Descending (still awesome) and Culling Voices while still good is the weakest out of the long tracks for me. Chocolate Chip Trip just on its own is a fairly fun instrumental but does feel a bit out of place perhaps and I would place it the lowest.

I couldn't even rank their albums (except for Undertow, which despite being a stellar debut is still their weakest album imo)... Every time I'd put an album in one space I'd think "but that other album has that and that so it should be in this higher space". And once I switch them, I'd think "yeah but that other album has friggin *this song*"...

Btw, Zantera, I understand what you mean by 10.000 Days dropping during the second half, since the first half has such strong tracks. But I still have to disagree  The second half has Right In Two and Rosetta Stoned, one of their best songs ever for me.

And also: finally someone who agrees with me! I tend to name Fear Inoculum their best album too, but it's just too early. (Also I'd fall into the thinking scheme I described above  :lol)

Just because I really like the Lost in Vegas guys. Their Tool - Pneuma video is one of the best reactions videos I've seen since they are getting it quickly and are 100% mind blown. Honestly they got that song much quicker than I ever did.

Anyway they revisit the song checking out the live video Tool posted:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KRMmd62S84M

That live video is still the most insane drumming I ever seen. Can't think of anything else like it even after going through multiple progressive metal / rock live videos (ofc all Dream Theater ones).

A few interesting / funny things about F.I.  ;D (not to be taken seriously)...

i. There is a song on 10,000 Days called Right In Two. A couple songs on the album are one big piece of music in two tracks

• 10,000 Days / Wings
• Lost Keys / Rosetta Stoned

10,000 Days split in two is 13 years. The gap until Fear Inoculum. Also the gap if you add up the gaps from Undertow to Aenima 3 to Lateralus 5 to 10,000 Days 5  ;D

Fear Inoculum has a song called MOCKING-Beat. Which is 2:05.

Viginti Tres is 5:02. I think this MIGHT be a very subtle dig at all the people who thought Wings/10,000/Viginti Tres was one massive song - when anyone with functioning ears

could hear that it was a complete mess. And if they intended it - then it would have sounded better than two songs playing at the same time.
