Does anyone else get annoyed that they recycled the opening riff of Jambi around the 8 minute mark of Invincible? Minor thing, but still.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m a pretty big Tool fan, and this might be a sacrilege but they are basically the Ac/Dc of the prog/metal world. ALOT of their stuff sounds the same. They do what they do well, but they have a very very specific formula they rarely stray too far from.
I have no words...

He's got a point. Obviously not all of their songs sound completely the same but basically all of their songs are in the same key and many of their riffs are just a differently-ordered sequence of these powerchords: D F G C D (see: the "holy fucking shit" riff at the beginning of Rosetta Stoned)

People were saying that about Pneuma sounding like Schism. It makes even more funnier (to me) they're playing both back to back.

Exactly. And I don’t mean that as a knock on Tool. It is what it is.

When people who haven’t heard of Dream Theater ask me what song they should listen to, I have a difficult time because their music is fairly diverse. With Tool you could probably give someone 1 or 2 songs and they’re gonna have a pretty good idea of what that band is all about.

I disagree. I mean, DT has done some occasional “diverse” things I suppose....but the entire reason I don’t often listen to DT any more is BECAUSE all their stuff is extremely similar. Take away all the bitching that people do about the sonic quality, and take it down to just songwriting and structure, and nearly all their albums are just better or “not as good” versions of the exact same ideas. And when they did recently try to break rank and try to something that was honestly different (TA) the reaction was so polarized that they resorted to going back to the formula. Not even saying that’s a bad thing. D/T is their best album in years...but it’s not breaking any new ground. It’s an extremely excellent example of “DT by the numbers” which is why people like it.

You can change it, but only if it becomes "TOOL : Finally Released A New Album. V Who Gives A Crap?!"

Haha, that's perfect.

I'm guilty of not listening to the album as much, only listened to it all the way twice. Don't know why, Maybe i'm still bitter my code from the cd won't work because My connection messed up while downloading it.

In the words of Michael Fassbender's Magneto - "Perfection."

I'll be honest, too. I've probably only listened to the album a handful of times shortly after release. I don't think I've listened to ONE song since October or so. Then again, Flying Colors and The Flower Kings released new albums after Tool did, so they occupied a lot of my late-fall/early-winter listening last year.

I'm sure I'll revisit FI at some point and maybe I'll like it more! I just haven't been in a Tool-mood in recent months.

I will say the mix is splendid. I enjoyed the listen, its a lot to digest though with the length of the songs. I just got the intermission tracks on Itunes and they are actually nice breathers bewtween the songs, making it easier to listen to oddly enough.

That was awesome! I never realized before, but the part starting at about 6:30 seems heavily inspired by some of Neil Peart's drum solos. Either way, Danny Carey is a beast. Time for me to finally sit down and learn this song on my drums.

Just watched that Danny vid. Holy crap is right! The posture and poise. The man doesn't waste a bit of motion. It's almost like watching Steve Morse play guitar. He doesn't look at his instrument at all, he just instinctively knows what to do and could do it blind.

Man, they need a live release. A modern one, that is.

100%. This video has shown how awesome it can be! This band has just a huge sound on stage and I would love to hear (and see) it over and over again at home. Do you guys think they'll ever release a live DVD? I remember MJK saying something like, we will never release a live DVD, just come to our fucking shows. But they ARE on streaming platforms now too- that's something no one expected as well.

As far as I know it's only audio though. I want a huge live package with a full concerts on Blu-Ray and LPs in an awesome box  :metal

Also, the other day I had a though: I hope that someday the band will release a boxset with all their albums on all formats. In a dark grey/black metal box. Simply called "Toolbox".

Salival was sort of a live release, had 5 live songs on it.

Which are rare songs or alternate...

Third Eye has a different opening Sample
Pushit has the entire first half changed up (It's my definitive version of the song)
Part of Me is an older EP song
Merkaba an instrumental only found on this EP
You Lied, a cover of Justins band Peach (they also played Spasm)
