So yeah, half the results now. Please don't send for the next round til the second half is posted; I still need to give those match-ups more listens. Thanks for playing ya'll, them's the breaks. Hope to see you next time.

Puppies_On_Acid: Coheed and Cambria - Key Entity Extraction I: Domino the Destitute
//WINNER// romdrums: The Panic Division - Silver Rings---
Sorry Pup - romdrums ran away with this. "Silver Rings" by The Panic Division has a great energy to it; it's upbeat and heavy but the vibe is rather delightful, I love the energy this one puts off. "Domino the Destitute" however doesn't change my opinions on Coheed and Cambria. I don't like the singer and the conceptual stuff behind the music is totally uninteresting, which doesn't make these 8 minutes go by any faster... yeah, this band isn't for me. I'm sorry you're gone so early again, Pup
- thanks for playing!

home: FKA twigs - home with you
//WINNER// TAC: Insomnium - Out to the Sea---
Wow, this is a match of polar opposites. home's song is delicate and gentle, TAC's is an onslaught of both melodic and guttural heaviness. One is an intimate, slow experience, and the other is a nuclear blast of artistic expression. I'm curious if this song is representative of FKA twigs in general. It's not a bad song, and I dig the mood. But the Insomnium song has several things going on at once that I like - the active and catchy rhythmic elements, the heavy yet melodic lead guitar. The softer bridge is a nice addition. In the end I'm giving it to Insomnium. Thanks for playing, home, sad to see you out so soon though

ariich: Gabrielle Aplin - Skeleton
//WINNER// Stadler: Billy Joel - Zanzibar---
The thought of Billy Joel always conjures the sound of punchy, jaunty light rock - there's a lot of that here, but it's the jazzy trumpet solo that sets this apart. Left me leaning back in my chair with the "bruh what" expression on my face. Killer song. Skeleton is a fun, head-boppable pop tune, very inoffensive and catchy. This would fit perfectly in a playlist with Florence + the Machine and some of my other favorite female artists. This is really tough. Both are good songs. I think the highs of Zanzibar, with the trumpet, however, push it just a little bit ahead of Skeleton. Both will make my favorites playlist, though. Thanks for playing again, ariich

Nekov: Bend Sinister - Best of You
//WINNER// Tomislav95: Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - The Ship Song---
I dig the Nick Cave, the relaxed groove with the bells and his lower (but not deep) voice is so chill. Big pleasant energy. Bend Sinister sounds like a smorgasbord of different styles blended together into something... frothy. And that's just the first half! At first I thought this song was way too long but with repeated plays I see that it's building to the back half which is mostly one consistent mood held together by a nice vocal hook and a lovely twinkling piano. This one is super close, but I gotta give it to Tomi on this one. Overall, it's just a bit more on the money than Nekov's is. But this was a really tough one. Both make my 'favorites' playlist, so I dug them a lot. Thanks for playing, Nekov!
