the album kinda sucks

the vocals are the cherry on the turd sundae

haven't played the second one yet though, hopefully that's better
From a Mega Man Legends island jamming power metal to a Walrus listening to black metal, I like your story arc.

Yeah, I really enjoyed Meridiem, guess I don't need to check their first album out now.

Sparta - Wiretap Scars

oh this is some classic, oldies-style post-hardcore (from like 2002). apparently tangentially related to ATDI who i've always been... mild on. and this is kind of in the same vein of being, well, technically post-hardcore but not to what the genre would eventually evolve into that interests me more in general. i like it, absolutely. i think it's a bit one-note and not a lot really stood out on first listen, but i imagine this would grow on me a fair bit if i gave it more spins. i just wish it was more hard-hitting at times but that's just me having a bias for more modern sounds in general, so ehh.

would i relisten? (yes/maybe/no) - yes

Intronaut - Fluid Existential Inversions

hhhmm this is a weird one. i know i should expect some change in sound given almost 4 years between albums & changing out one of the core band members and all but my issues mostly start with the production and mix, which feel 1. weirdly muddy and not as crisp as their past few, and 2. not as bass-centric as the band normally is, respectively. i did like the songwriting on the whole though i don't think it feels as dynamic as their previous stuff either? i'll definitely have to give it more spins though but my first impression is... admittedly a bit underwhelming, we'll see though

would i relisten? (yes/maybe/no) - again, i have already bought this

Based on the singles I think I should love this. I didn’t like Direction of Last Things much, my favorite Intronaut album by far is Void. But when it comes to their ‘proggy’ albums, it’s looking like I will give this the edge to Direction, gonna spin it now :metardica:

Regarde Les Hommes Tomber - Ascension

not the first album i've heard from these guys but it kind of has a similar feel to their previous one, in that on a sound level they sound pretty good, and there's a nice amount of intensity to their music as well... but i still run into the problem that there's a melodic element that feels lacking, and there isn't much unique personality to their sound either, i would not be able to recognize their music in such a crowded field as ABM. i like this but i don't think it's gonna stick with me

would i relisten? (yes/maybe/no) - maybe

Rush - A Farewell to Kings

on a quest to make absolutely nobody happy i am listening to an album from a band that every prog fan is supposed to know, that i've never been too into. just never been huge on their style or songs, they've always been "alright" though. i picked this album primarily because it's their most well-liked album i've never heard a single song off of, so. it's... well it's rush. it sounds like rush, except the last track which is decently more exciting than the rest, but i can't say much stood out besides that one. again nothing wrong with this band and their talent and influence is undeniable but they just don't make music that sounds like what i want out of music, whether it's their classics or their late-era, more modern albums. it's fine though.

would i relisten? (yes/maybe/no) - maybe

anyways that's the end of that. this was an interesting experiment i probably won't be repeating. i already have way too many albums i want to listen to & didn't get a ton new out of this, really
