We will all miss 'The Professor'.

The decades of air drumming to 'Xanadu' and 'Tom Sawyer' and........

Glad I got to see him and the boys back in the 70s, the 90s, and their two most recent tours.

It has been an 'era' of so many artists of our youth passing away.  This one really stings.

...going along with Dragon Attack's Queen thread has been like taking a free class in Queen knowledge. Where else are you gonna find info like that?!

I'm seeing a Rush tribute band tonight of all things.

Suddenly you were gone
From all the lives you left your mark upon

Posted this very quote to Facebook when my dad died a few weeks ago. Still can’t think about those lines without tearing up.

Neil left a mark upon my life and his lyrics and drumming opened up this huge world of music for me.

This is absolutely heartbreaking to hear at the start of 2020.

Rest in peace, Neil. Thanks for everything.

Poor guy. First wife and daughter die. Finally retired to spend time with the new family and battles brain cancer for 3 years.

Best of all time or at least top 3 for me.
Take care everyone - Bet you all didn't even notice I was gone.

Happy Lives to you all.

As a drummer who has been influenced by his playing (as have countless other drummers), this is a sad reality. We all have to go at some time, but it's never easy when that time comes.

As sad as I am by this, I feel like he lived the life he wanted to live and on the terms he set forth. He was obviously dealt a considerable amount of tragedy, but I think, overall, he lived the best life he could have and that's pretty damn awesome.

Fuck. Brain cancer (battling for 3 yrs). No wonder he wanted to retire and spend time with his family.

The "positive thing" is that now he is at peace with his other family (first wife and daughter). Sadly, he leaves his younger child and 2nd wife...

I honestly didn't even know he was diagnosed with brain cancer. Of all things, brain cancer. That's a one-two punch to read about.

After reading his book Ghost Rider and making my journey through the Rush discography a couple years ago, I became an enormous fan of his. It seems like he really did live the life he wanted to live, and on his own terms, just like Adami said. I think that's exactly what he wanted, and he was blessed with a gargantuan talent for music, writing, and an appreciation for the world. Bless him. Glad he can finally rest.

Just unbelievable.  He was a few weeks younger than my dad, died a few weeks after my dad, and died of cancer like my dad.  The measure of a life...

Achingly sad news  :'(

I wasn't sure if it was publicly announced and I had missed it, or if (which I'm starting to think is what happened) Neil just kept it completely secret from most people, which sounds much more like Neil.

This is just heartbreaking, but I'm glad he's no longer suffering above all else.

The most devastating one yet. I’m at a complete loss right now. His drumming spoke to me before I even knew what was being said. One of my biggest drumming heroes. Rush in Peace.

But it's nice to see a Scurvy Dreams appearance!  I just hate that it took this tragedy to see it!

In total shock. Thoughts and prayers with Olivia and Carrie. What a loss to rock music, Rush are legends in this community, and I imagine a lot of people on this forum will be feeling this one.

RIP Professor, you will be missed.
