JP receiving the Sena Performers European Guitar Award this year plus a couple of his solo songs and an Allman Brothers song live with Rena :-

The BEST thing I'll watch today! Thank you for that.

Edit: Also, proof positive that JP sounds even better with a rhythm guitarist!

The performances are incredible. I really hope JP eventually makes another solo record. The first one is so good.

This was the best 30 mins of my day. John and Rena are so cute and they play so well off each other.

Not to spoil anything, but the presenter was also a nice surprise  :hefdaddy

This was so cool on so many levels.
I just don't understand what they were trying to achieve with any part of the song, either individually or as a whole. You know what? It's the Platypus of Dream Theater songs. That bill doesn't go with that tail, or that strange little furry body, or those webbed feet, and oh god why does it have venomous spurs!? And then you find out it lays eggs too. The difference is that the Platypus is somehow functional despite being a crazy mishmash or leftover animal pieces

Hearing JP live with a rhythm guitarist is so weird, and I love it so much.  Man he’s on fire here.

Having another guitarist there is cool, because the studio album has all those extra guitar parts, but the keyboards were a bit high on the mix for me.

Btw, I'm not into Epica and I'm not familiar with their members, other than Simone Simons, but I read on the comments that some of the backing band are Epica members? That's cool :metal

I was just planning to go to bed until I discovered this gem. This stuff just warms my heart. JP is awesome. Props to the 'house band' as well.

This was a great video, really enjoyable watch. Not sure if it would be economically viable, but I'd LOVE to see a JP solo tour in small club type venues with a full band like this.

Anyhow, great video interview with live footage from the SEGA European Guitar Award show from November 2019:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1IoF5U691gQ

In addition to the interview footage, he plays Glasgow Kiss, Lost Without You, and a guitar duel with his wife Rena Sands in the song "Jessica" from The Allman Brothers.

EDIT:  AND I REALLY HOPE JP TAKES NOTE FROM THIS PERFORMANCE THAT HIS PLAYING SOUNDS EVEN MORE AMAZING WHEN HE HAS ACCOMPANIMENT FROM A BACKUP GUITARIST!  IT'S ABOUT TIME!

Yeah It's a cool video. I still laugh at 21:00, when JP goes to greet the guy, but he's just reaching for the mic :)

I also thought the way he introduced Rena was really sweet.

Thanks, TAC.  I didn't realize that thread existed.  I'll just merge them and let this be the NEW JP thread.  :tup

I love how on the Allman cover, there are several times where JP and Rena look at each other, and I can imagine them saying:
Rena:  Yeah, you may be an amazing player, but you only sound that good because I taught you that lick!
JP:  Yeah, well, you may be an amazing player, but your tone only sounds that good because you're playing one of my new signature guitars!

Now that this is THE JP thread and now that Bosk has joined the conversation, we need you to ask him (if you can, of course) if he ever plans to record his second solo album. He's previously said he has all the music written, but it's just sitting there waiting to be recorded (and it has been since around 2010). His solo stuff is just too good to be left with only one album out, and now that Tool finally released a new one, I'm hopeful JP will follow the same path :lol
