Btw I know I started the whole "epic gift opening utensil" trend a few years back when I first used my butchering scimitar, but I claim no responsibility when one of you knuckleheads hacks off a finger trying to top each other in this thing.

My first idea was fire actually. Was going to put some small amount of lighter fluid over the tape, light it on fire and then throw a wet washcloth on it to put it out. Then when I realized that was insane, I was going to use a spoon. But then when I wen to get that bathrobe, I found the batleth thing and went with that. Total last minute decision.

I don’t know? Some weeks I never use it. Some a few times. I know that when I need it though it’s there. I think I’ve carried one my entire adult life.....at least since I was 17/18ish.

My FiL has always had a pocketknife in his pocket since I've known him (10+ years). They live a rustic lifestyle now, after moving from a more urban setting. I don't know if that change prompted him to carry one. I doubt it though as he seems like the guy to regularly have need of one, considering how handy and resourceful he is.
