While they’re not the most engaging band, out of the last 100+ gigs I’ve been to, both of the Contortionist shows were some of the most creative. They’re one of those bands that make very interesting changes to their live sets. Cool unique interludes (not on the albums) and added layers to the original songs, a really rewarding show especially if you’re already familiar with the songs!

That's really cool and I like that a lot in live music  :metal

They didn't really catch me the one time I saw them. Lead singer is just weird man, plus I was anxious for Tesseract to come out after them.

Is the singer a contortionist? Because I find that stuff to be really weird and uncomfortable to watch  :lol

I don't know how to put it...his stage presence was just fucking weird. He seems like he was trying to act all trippy and surreal and just came across to me as a bit silly.

:lol no, but I get what lonestar means, those weird improv intermissions are mostly the singer doing some gibberish with atmospheric / glitchy background music, and the stage presence he gives off (I think intentionally) is very bipolar in that he will act super calm during cleans, and move his mouth like a fucking demon during harsh vocals very unnecessarily over the top. But I like that theatric feel

Yea, I guess I'll have to see for myself, but in general I like theatrics as well.  Sounds intriguing.  I'll give them some listens as the show gets closer for sure.

I remember when I first saw them live he introduced the song "Anatomy Anomalies" and added his own echo / delay to that title by just repeating it over and over, slightly lowering his voice each time.

To his credit it at least got me to remember the name of the song. :lol

I also don't know what I was saying here but apparently autocorrect had its own ideas, just noticed this :lol

2. Ayreon - The Theory of Everything

The album that reignited my love for progressive rock and metal and made me start buying physical CDs way more actively than earlier. My wallet isn't thankful, but I am. The story is good, the sinners are great, also the art is gorgeous.

Ok, here's mine then.  I could probably interchange a handful of these at anytime, but this is as good a ranking as any.

1 Flaming Row / Elinoire
2 Epysode / Obsessions
3 Star One / Victims of the Modern Age
4 Anthriel / The Pathway
5 Beyond the Bridge / Old Man & The Spirit
6 Daydream XI / Circus of the Tattered and Torn
7 Symphony X / Underworld
8 Ostura / The Room
9 Vanden Plas / Chronicles of the Immortals Netherworld I
10 Evergrey / Hymns for the Broken
11 Magnus Karlsson's FreeFall / FreeFall
12 Mystery / Lies and Butterflies
13 Teramaze / Her Halo
14 Glass Mind / Haunting Regrets
15 Echoes / Nature | Existence

I had another 20 albums that are 5* top-to-bottom, and were very disappointing not to include.  But, it's kinda hard to make a Top 15 list with 35 albums.   :lol

Yeah, it's the only DT album of the decade I go back to on a regular basis, and the last three tracks have a very deep significance for me. I haven't gone to DT12 or the Astonshingly boring pretty in ages, and even D/T is losing traction.

I find that I don't go back to any Post-Octavarium albums anymore. D/T was a small step in the right direction at least, but not enough to interest me as much as albums 15+ years ago.

I'm pretty sure that's a feature of most streaming services, & I think iTunes keeps track of that as well.

There's also Last.fm which keeps track of how many times you play a song or album or band. And gives you all kinds of stats at the end of every month.

Voices from the Fuselage- Odyssey:The Destroyer of Worlds

That list has 17 albums though :P

Oh, I forgot to mention I suck at counting, and that'll spell bad news for our house band since they were already on the line. The other cut might be either a Haken or IQ album, which is equivalent of choosing a child.

When in doubt, scratch Haken
That's a word salad - and take it from me, I know word salad
I fear for the day when something happens on the right that is SO nuts that even Stadler says "That's crazy".

Pretty much this.

I'm in.
