hmm, i dunno, something about this isn't quite working for me. the song i was sent isn't particularly representative of the rest of the album and the rest of the album is more straightforward indie rock than anything. it's not bad or unpleasant but it's also not grabbing me as much as mr. moon did, even on first listen i dug that one a lot and nothing else here got that reaction from me. maybe it needs a relisten, maybe they have a better full album to check out, i don't really know

I like The Valley. It's my wife's favorite Eisley album, but I prefer the 2 before it (Combinations and Room Noises) and the 2 after it. They are a very enjoyable band all around though.

It's a pretty short album, worth a relisten at some point. I don't disagree that Mr. Moon is still the best song there but the rest of it did grow on me.

yeah, this is... an interesting sound, for sure. kind of a lot to take in on a single sitting though, but the rest of the album is prettyyyy much just the same style as the song that was sent, which is to say it'll take a bit to unpack. definitely digging it though. less digging the silence + bonus track hidden in the last track, i kinda feel that's such a dead gimmick at this point but whateverrrr

Round 5 First Impressions

This is, probably, really good for its genre and simultaneously emphasizes why this genre almost never works that well for me.

I like the way they toe the line of melody and dissonance consistently and while some elements I initially found offputting they didn’t end up bothering me much.

I don’t know if it’s immediately working for me in this style, but I could see it growing on me, though I doubt it’ll be a favorite either.

I don’t have any particularly strong opinion about this first listen but I also see it as unlikely to do particularly bad.

I think it’s a bit lacking in surprises but it’s got a good core sound and it’s still enjoyable enough front-to-back, even if it’s a bit overshadowed in this round.

It’s a nice little song that slots into the kind of sound I like in this genre, even if I’m not too sure it’s going to be a favorite or have a ton of repeat value.

This one threw me for a loop several times as I could never quite pin down what it was trying to be, but I did enjoy it for what it was all the same.

There’s some solid groove to this but it’s a sound I kind of struggle to really get into; the second half is better than the first half, though.

It does this style more in the way that I generally prefer it, though I do think it struggles to find a unique sound all the same.

I’m digging this sound even if I don’t think it’s fully clicking with me on first listen, it’s definitely interesting though.

feel like this is gonna have the lowest spread of scores of any round thus far - everything's at least solid but nothing is blowing me away yet either, ranges from "decent" to "pretty good"

it's also the longest round by song lengths so far, I think, over half the songs pass the 7 minute mark or come close to it
