Round 8 First Impressions

Pleasant and kind of neat little song, I can point out little nitpicks here and there but it’s still overall solid.

Nothing about this one that really stood out for better or worse except, again, the vocal mixing!

The general vibe of this one is pretty pleasant, my big worry is that it won’t have much lasting value or really ever resonate with me that strongly.

Not a bad or unpleasant sound or anything but it never really feels like it goes anywhere or does much for me, it’s just… fine.

A sound I generally like and it seems like a solid example of it but poor mixing really doesn’t flatter this one.

A bit hard to grasp this one initially as it takes a while to really come together but it’s got an overall nice vibe to it that I could see growing on me.

I don’t think this is immediately standing out as especially interesting or amazing (or as unique as I’d like) but I like the overall sound and it stays interesting & dynamic the whole way through regardless.

It’s pretty fun and upbeat though in this case I wouldn’t say it sounds as fresh as its most obvious comparison in this roulette.

Vocals on parts of this are… questionable, but there’s enough that works here that I could see myself getting decently into it.

This song doesn’t have the same mixing problems several others this round do, but right now I’m kind of wishing it did ‘cause I’m not huge on the vocals here, even if the rest is pretty solid.

The three general themes of this round are that 1. there's almost no metal period (2 of the 10) 2. subsequently, all the songs are shorter on average (longest song is under 7 minutes, 5 of the 10 are under 5 minutes), and 3. a weirdly high number of songs have incredibly bad vocal mixing (4 of the 10).

It's... a different round, for sure. I don't mind since a lot of the metal I've been sent in the past two rounds hasn't done so hot anyways

Results will be up Friday, a great deal for sure. Also, Bolsters, your song isn't gonna get a 0 (spoilers but probably not really your lowest score so far is like, a 2

) so you should start working on your EP

Let me refresh the EP round rules real quick since we're getting close to the point where people will need to start preparing one, also...

Just some things to keep in mind that make a good EP:

1.   Flow – abrupt cuts or awkward transitions between songs takes me out of the experience and makes your EP sound less like a curated work and more like just a random Spotify playlist.

In the result of a tie after the EP round, the tiebreaker will be the highest-ranking song across all tied EPs.
