Holy heck. That's pretty rad!
From a Mega Man Legends island jamming power metal to a Walrus listening to black metal, I like your story arc.

With Portnoy out of the band, someone has to be the tatooed guy, right? :lol
But seriously it looks super cool.
It sounds like, "ruk, ruk, ruk, ruk, ruk." Instead of the more pleasing kick drum sound of, "gzarruk, gzarruk, gzarruk, gzarruk."

Wow, never expected that.  That's some fine art but wow, his whole arm!

Although, having yourself tattooed in superhero form on your own arm seems a bit.......interesting.

Really detailed and cool. I’m surprised they were able to get the Majesty Logo that small.

A little odd to go from zero tattoos to half of the visible skin on your body tattooed in your 6th decade of life but hey, at least it looks cool!

Who is the face on the forearm?

Also, are we sure that's actually James?
would have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related

Since he's a pirate of the seven seas, I'm gonna guess it's Poseidon.

Does someone remember how the whole "James' a pirate" thing started? Jordan was called the wizard for his skills on the keys, but I can't remember when James has started being associated with piracy and why.

It probably started with shovelling and digging gold backstage while the band played instrumentals in concert. It was an inside joke between the fans that got to him. Also, Jordan liked giving him nicknames all the time (pirate, captain, cowboy), and pirate probably stuck the most. There's probably more to it, though.

I thought it came from this picture, which was created by a former member here, but even 5 years ago, Hef said it was JR.

It seems odd that he would do this later in life.  Usually when someone gets tattoos they start in their 20's.  But James Hetfield kind of did the same thing, so what do I know.  I'm not much of an ink fan, but it sure does look cool.

The James as a pirate thing is much more than five years old.

The thing that strikes me as odd is that he got an image of himself.  Given his personality, that's not the sort of thing I'd expect from JLB.

I know. That picture was made in 06/07 I believe, right before the split, or just after it.

JR gave him the nickname.  I doubt there was any significant occurrence that caused it.  Probably just popped out.
Hef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.

I may be misremembering, but I think there was a puffy shirt involved that sparked the comment from Jordan.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's some sort of fan art that James decided to acknowledge.

James' pirate persona stems from a role he auditioned for in one of the Pirates of the Caribbean  movies, when the producers wanted a music figure for a key role. The role famously went to Keith Richards, but due to a miscommunication, James showed up to set anyway and, mistaking him for an extra, the crew wound up doing makeup and wardrobe for him. James showed up to set in full pirate garb for six consecutive days, awaiting instruction before the producers realized he didn't belong. The ensuing lock down of the set delayed production and caused the cast to have to make up a day's worth of filming on a weekend. This caused great animosity between James and Orlando Bloom, who to this day refuses to listen to Octavarium past the line "sailing on the seven seas." It's just too painful a memory.

Probably how it happened. Maybe.

Didn't he already have a tattoo on his inner forearm?

Tattoos can be addicting. He went from nothing, to something small, then a big jump to a full sleeve. Interesting.

James said on Instagram that the tattoo took 2 days of 10 hour sessions back to back. Wow. I bet the itching was/is insane.

What's more interesting is he did this so close to a tour. Isn't the tour starting today? The first picture he posted was Sept 17th, I doubt the tattoo healed already. Unless he got them earlier in the month but posted the pictures afterward.

IIRC, he got the small tattoo on his left arm around 2017, and now he’s back for more. The full sleeve is a bit too much, and I’m not a fan of big tattoos like that, but can’t deny it looks really cool.
