I use my Kindle Fire 10 all the time - reading library books, primarily.   But it has a great screen and I can stream shows on it.  Amazon and Google don't get along, so they don't have Youtube TV - I was able to sideload that app, so I can watch tv on the kindle as well.

Oh wow, that's cool.

So you can sync it with your local library?

Yes, it's an app called Libby, which gives you access to your local library's digital catalog via your library card number.  14-day digital downloads to your kindle/mobile device.  After 14 days, the download disappears off of your device.

I got tired of carrying thick, heavy books in my bag as I commuted on the train to work.  So I started using my kids' old, slow Kindle fire to read and upgraded it a year and a half ago to a new device with a 10-inch screen.  Works very well for both reading and streaming tv.

Yep, Libby, but for us I think we get books for 21 days.

When I read much more often, I loved reading paperbacks, and never thought I would make the switch to e-readers. Given the choice, I'd still go with a paperback, but the convenience of finding books any hour of the day is priceless, and indeed great for those who read on the bus/plane or otherwise on the go.

Jesus, there are organizations out there that actually give a shit about their employees hey!?

I've been fortunate.  I went from a law firm that I don't think gave a flying fuck about me (although a few of the partners did) to a really good company.  I still don't get paid what I was making at the law firm when I left 10 years ago, but I'm paid fairly, I get 4 weeks of PTO per year (plus two "floating holidays" and the standard batch of holidays), and the difference in the quality of life is unmeasurable.

I have been with my fucking organisation for 15 years as of last week.  Do you want to know what I get...........a $190 gift voucher and a fucking certificate and a stupid badge with 15 years on it!  That's it. I'm seeing how long it takes to actually get to me.

$190?   :lol

Why not just make it an even $200? Or did they deduct $10 for the badge?   :rollin

:lol I know right.  Like WTF?!  I've given up trying to work out what the fuck goes on here.  :rollin

Well, today I've learned that I've been hired to teach English at a local school in Zhenxing District, People's Republic of China. I'm so thrilled! Unfortunately, I'm not sure if I'll have access to DTF from there. I'll miss this place, even if I hardly knew it, and hopefully, looking forward to posting again when my contract expires in 3 months time.

Hope I find some DT fans behind the great wall...  :metal

Congrats on landing the English teaching gig (I'll need to Google Zhenxing District though I'm afraid)! That sounds like an amazing opportunity. Don't worry too much about the DTF access, I bet you'll find plenty of exciting adventures and experiences over there to keep you occupied. Please tell us about your journey when you return after your contract ends. Safe travels and best of luck with the teaching gig!

I've posted this pic before, as well as the one with The Lovely Mrs TAC, but the guy on the right is my closest friend from high school, Dan. This pic was at his first wedding in 1999. He just texted me that he found out that Rik Emmett mentions him by name in his upcoming autobiography and he texted me a picture of the page in the book.

I assume it’s similar to how Guns n Roses mention St. Louis in the liner notes for Use Your Illusion.

What does he mention him for?

My friend Dan met Rik in the 90's through Rik's website. Rik was available for local "promoters" to do "Grass Roots" shows. He basically had his fans book and pay for his concerts lol.
Anyway, my friend Dan put on a couple of these shows at Berklee. We went to one of them. It was Rik with drums and bass on a tape, and he played guitar and sand, and told stories. It was pretty cool, but it was a bit geeky honestly.
But Rik loved the acoustics in that room so much, he recorded his Live At Berklee live album there. So it's where he was talking about that album where he mentions my friend.

No idea what that means, but cool!

And I'm guessing it's Anne L'Huillier who's your colleague.
