A quick google search suggests that it is….not!

It’s a Minecraft thing. A bit beyond my comprehension but looks neat.

A week from this coming Saturday will be my 10 year anniversary with my current employer.  Yesterday, my boss gave me my certificate of recognition along with the info to choose my anniversary gift.  For my 5 year anniversary, I got a blue ray player.  This time, I'm debating between:

- A drone.  Fun, but I have a feeling I'll use it a small handful of times and then it'll sit around gathering dust.

- A new suitcase.  The rolling duffel bag that has been my primary suitcase for non-business travel for nearly 20 years is shedding the interior plastic lining.  Not fun but actually fills a need.

- An Amazon Fire HD tablet.  When I started with the company, I won an IPad Mini in a drawing at the 2013 holiday party.  I got a lot of use out of it until it stopped turning on.  I thought about buying a new one, but I don't really have a need for it.  When I fly, it'd be nice to watch movies and TV shows on a screen bigger than my phone.

There are a few kitchen gadgets I also considered (Instant Pot, electric cast iron grill), but we pretty much have something that does everything, so this would be just a minor upgrade.

As usual, I'll probably agonize over this decision far longer than is worthwhile.

Jesus, there are organizations out there that actually give a shit about their employees hey!?

Yeah, suitcase if you're going to buy a new one soon anyway, makes sense.  Unless you really would want the tablet, that sounds cool too.

Yeah, you said you can use one so that makes a lot of sense.

My company did something similar at 5 years.  The options kind of stunk as they were all things I had.  I ended up searching on amazon for the items I was most interested in and took the one that was worth the most.... a casio keyboard  :lol I certainly got and get a lot of use out of it so I'm happy with that decision.

I use my Kindle Fire 10 all the time - reading library books, primarily.   But it has a great screen and I can stream shows on it.  Amazon and Google don't get along, so they don't have Youtube TV - I was able to sideload that app, so I can watch tv on the kindle as well.

My library has an online portal (probably not the right term) where you can check out books to read on your Tablet or other e-device. I love it, especially with the kids. We can check books out together at night time when we read from the comfort of bed.

My work just rolled out new benefits for us today. Milestone anniversaries now get you an extra week of vacation to use from the date of until your next anniversary. Takes effect in January. Guess who celebrates 25 years next June? They also upped our PTO accrual rate. I now get more than 8 hours every paycheck. I mean, I have 32+ days available to me right now so, yeah.

Plus a bunch of other stuff. Nice to work for a huge healthcare organization in Chicago. Benefits are crazy good.

Pardon the interruption, but I just had to run in and celebrate the majesty of Lube in the Face as highest moment in roulette history

So you can sync it with your local library?

Yes, it's an app called Libby, which gives you access to your local library's digital catalog via your library card number.  14-day digital downloads to your kindle/mobile device.  After 14 days, the download disappears off of your device.

I got tired of carrying thick, heavy books in my bag as I commuted on the train to work.  So I started using my kids' old, slow Kindle fire to read and upgraded it a year and a half ago to a new device with a 10-inch screen.  Works very well for both reading and streaming tv.
