NFL 2019 Survivor - TAC wins! Losers feel free to keep playing
« on: September 07, 2019, 10:40:28 AM »
I always enjoyed the NFL Survivor, even more than the Pick 'Em. If there is enough interest I will set it up and have it running prior to Week 2.

Quick overview of the rules?   You pick one game per week, and if you're right you move on, but you CANNOT use that team again in subsequent weeks.  If you're wrong, you are relegated to professional heckler.

The Jets so it’s not a sure bet.

That's the basics as far as I understand them as was going to implement.

I'm in.  Single or double elimination?

I recall past years it's been single.

I will get it set up for next week. The only thing I don't recall is are picks due 1) at a specified time each week for everyone, or 2) by kickoff of the particular game selected?

It was option 2. Every week somebody forgets to make a pick and scrambles to choose one of the MNF teams. Done that once or twice, myself.

And it was single, but several times everybody was out pretty early and he started it up again. I think only once did it go long-term. I'm thinking Jingle and somebody.

Thank you for all the posts. Now, since I am running this I am going to spin things a little bit my way:

1) Participants will pick one game per week, starting with week 2.
2) Picks must be made in this thread by Saturday at midnight Pacific time; unless your pick is a Thursday night/Thanksgiving game. Picks for those games must take place prior to kickoff.
3) Single elimination.
4) You may only select each team once throughout the duration of the contest.
5) Each participant will receive one bye week. Hopefully this will allow for weeks we either forget to submit, or just can't decide for a week. If you don't submit a pick for a given week, I will consider that your bye week. A second non-pick week will result in a loss.

Arizona Cardinals @ Baltimore Ravens
I was seriously considering that one.  But (1) I figured I would hold off and take the Cardinals tanking in a later week when I really need them, and (2) I'm not confident that the Ravens are legit.  Need to see more before I take them winning a game, even if it is against the Cards.

I like the Ravens at home. There's a number of games this week that I wouldn't want to touch this early.

Agreed.   It's always squirrelly this early, but in recent years, with the trend of sitting starters throughout the preseason, you get games where Baltimore scores a brazillian points against Miami.  I think Baltimore is better than Miami, but I think it's a foolhardy assumption that every team is going to tee up the 'fins for 50 a game.   (Except the Patriots; I saw this morning that with Brown now on board, there's a motion in front of the owners to give them the trophy now and save the effort.)

Yeah, it's weird they would schedule the Pats a bye in Week 2.

The Patriots have lost 5 of their last 6 in Miami. Something to think about.

Not to mention it usually takes a few weeks for them to figure out how to use the pieces they have. I won't be at all surprised if they get thrashed once or twice in the next few weeks.  Of course I also won't be surprised if they go 16-0 again. They're a very good team this year.

Although that has been true several seasons in the past, I wouldn't count on it this year.  When that happens, they are usually replacing several key pieces and looking like they will be rebuilding a bit.  This year doesn't really look like that for them.

So yeah, when I lose at the first possible opportunity, do I still have to run this damn thing?!
