True.. I am very unsure about this one though. It's super long and haven't found many people who are nearly as hyped about the album as I am. But I was the same with Odyssey to the West, and everyone would probably have adviced against that album but I still did it and I won.. so in short: you never know with you and your tastes!

I'm definitely trying to send a lot of different styles, like last time.

Marah in the Mainsail have another album and an ep that are worth checking out if you liked Bone Crown. They've since changed their name to Coyote Kid and are putting out an album in October. Same sound, same band, new name.

Trying to figure out what to send next. I'll come up with something hopefully sometime today.

I hate when bands do that. Is it the same band? Is it now a new band? Anyway yeah will definitely check out their other stuff. Almost all of my music discovery for about six months leading up to this roulette was properly delving into other albums by bands that scored 8/10 or higher in my last two roulettes (and some of the 7.5s) so I'll certainly be doing that again after this one.

Seneca sent me something pretty moody in the first round and seems to like some pretty maudlin music, so he's Rorschach.

Luoto is Moomintroll, as the Moomins were created by a Finnish illustrator.

Clortho sent me something kind of dark and quirky in the first round, and has a creature in his avatar, so he's Venom.

First impression: The prelim song was good, but I don’t think it’s the best one you could have sent. Wasn’t 100% sure about the opener, but there’s some absolutely superb, punchy and sometimes surprisingly epic music on here.

Final opinion: OK so I do get your choice of prelim song, which represents the album well. As a whole it’s all solid, but it's really strengthened by two songs in particular. I might have felt it a bit cold and angsty were it not for the amazing two-punch of Reuptake and In Your Ways in the middle. Reuptake isn't as heavy or shouty as some songs on the album but it feels angrier, like it's underpinned by a deep fury. In Your Ways is more sorrowful, starting delicate but building hugely to something quite intense and epic. As post-hardcore goes, these two songs are up there among some of the best stuff Thrice has produced, which is really saying something. There are other strong songs as well of course (the last few songs are really good), but those two lift the album from very good to excellent.
Rating: 8.5/10
Score: 8 + 1 bonus = 9 points

oh and some comments about your writeup - In Your Wars is definitely the best song on the album, no question, but it's mellower so I don't like using it to represent the album  I really like Reuptake too though I wouldn't call it a favorite (Low and Beholden, Dilettante, and Pareidolia are all better, at least, but I mean, it's a friggin' great album overall). I honestly don't dislike any song and really only feel Well Being is a bit weaker than the rest (it's also sandwiched between two runs of three great tracks in a row, which doesn't help). Anyways it was my 2nd Place for AOTY last year and I don't regret putting it there  (#1 was Poly-Math which I think I sent you as a bonus last time, so )

yeah they have a previous album and i've listened to it a few times but it's a bit underwhelming. pretty much lacks good hooks entirely and it's only like a half hour long, bleh
anyways i expect to tank this round because the album i sent is historically one other people here haven't been as into but whatever
