My 2015 release is definitely safe :) (maybe if I say it I'll believe it)

My 2018 release is probably on the chopping block.
That's a word salad - and take it from me, I know word salad
I fear for the day when something happens on the right that is SO nuts that even Stadler says "That's crazy".

I've decided the only thing I'll leave until after the sign-up deadline is hangman. Until then, there are two more things to post based on the current 18 submissions, one today and one tomorrow morning:

 - Safe/contender/unlikely stats by song length
 - First impressions

Which would you like first? New poll added.

Am I that predictable at this point?  That's a great album!   :)

Only 3 votes :lol But first impressions are more popular. If that doesn't change in the next hour, I'll go ahead and post them.

Second option, Nils Frahm, you just have to be contrarian don't you?

:lol Hey! Nils Frahm is dope, and the second option because there's a 66% probability that I don't make it past this round!

Ok then, first impressions seems to be the clear winner (6 votes to 3) so here they are. One of these is rather more obvious and specific than the others. :lol Also, keep in mind that these were all written after only the first listen. My views on some of them have shifted a little already.

Prelim first impressions

1. Immediately enjoyable, dark and energetic.

2. Enjoyable modern version of an otherwise dated style. Not sure about the vocals so far.

3. This is a lot darker than I was expecting. It’s really cool and I already can't wait to hear the album.

4. Great vibe, but after one listen I'm not sure the song has enough of a focal point.

5. Solid example of exactly the sort of thing I'd expect you to send. I do wonder if you've played it too safe here though.

6. Pretty much the sort of thing I’d expect you to send. It’s nice enough, but it’s not really doing much for me.

7. I've heard this artist before, but this definitely sounds more interesting, if still a little lacking in wow factor.

8. I've heard this artist before, and once again on paper they sound good but the music just isn't grabbing me (so far).

9. Pretty fun song despite being quite moody. Nice guitar work. Not sure I find it very exciting though.

10. Nice prog, but it didn’t make a big immediate impression on me.

11. Beautifully emotive, with a sonic richness I didn't expect in the opening of the song.

12. Cool song, but possibly held back by the production.

13. There’s loads to like here but some of the vocals grated me a bit, which could be a sticking point.

14. This is evidently from a concept album. I like it, but I'm not sure how well it works out of context.

15. Takes a while to get going, but it's a lovely song that hits an extremely niche soft spot of mine.

16. Takes even longer to get going, but boy when it does it has some really exciting stuff.

17. Warm and pleasant... but that might be it. Don’t really remember anything else about it.

18. This sounds like a jazz cover of Japanese video game music. Is it corny or awesome though?

If I had to wager, I'd lay my chips on Black 11.

Though, if history is any indicator, I could very well be awarded with 5 ... or alternatively either of the 'heard the artist before' comments

17. Wow, Stadler, your taste in music is outstanding; this is certainly the song to beat so far.

Any of those could be mine, though as you said, one was way more obvious and specific than the others.

What gave it away, the fact that I mentioned it like four times in my two-paragraph writeup?

There are better standalone songs on the album but this is my favourite so it made sense to send that.
This first band is Soen very cool swingy jazz fusion kinda stuff.

I think it's banned but if it's not I'll be definitely pushing this album as a sidekick to my patron, because apparently I'm either unlikely or one of the two contenders in the 2016 bracket.

For the record there are at least three obvious concept albums, and two people specifically referenced this fact in their submissions.
