Another one that I really like is the cover of Hallo Spaceboy by Pagan's Mind

That's a great one! Definitely one where, at the time, I thought it was an original and was surprised to learn it wasn't.

Also, Suzanna Hoffs.

Great suggestions.  I'm loving the Rock Me Amadeus and I Kissed A Girl ones.

Halestorm does great covers as well and put out a covers CD between each full album but out of the 3 they've done so far I'd say Bad Romance kicks the most ass.

My next suggestion is Danger Silent - Crystallize (Lindsey Stirling):

Somehow they managed to squeeze in clean male, clean female (even if it is autotuned, that's the effect they wanted I'm sure), growls, and a rap into it and it sounds like they're meant to go together.

+1

Upon the mention of Scarborough Fair, I have to mention Bon Jovi's cover of Mrs. Robinson - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YSSAeTdQiFk (it's only 3mins.  Not sure what the last 1/2 of this video is all about).
That's a word salad - and take it from me, I know word salad
I fear for the day when something happens on the right that is SO nuts that even Stadler says "That's crazy".

Interesting cover.  Reminds me of the band, Starset, at the beginning.  Now I'm hoping that Starset and Lindsey Stirling (who I like and saw her show a few weeks ago) can do something together in the future.  It worked with Lindsey and Lzzy Hale.  It should work with Starset (who does incorporate electronics and more spacey vibes in their music).

Surprised we haven't had this gem of a video mentioned... Blind Guardian - Mr. Sandman

And then Alestorm covered a EuroVision song - Alestorm - Wolves of the Sea - and Alestorm - I Am A Cider Drinker (Wurzels cover) and of course the great cover of Stan Rogers's Barrett's Privateers but that one's more folk than pop
From a Mega Man Legends island jamming power metal to a Walrus listening to black metal, I like your story arc.

Have you heard of Leo Moracchioli? He's done a crapload of covers of pop songs from different eras. I'm not really into covers per se, but some of these are pretty great.

Absolutely came in here to post this guy. He's amazing and his cover of Adele's "Hello" is the greatest thing ever:

Another favorite of mine recently has been New Found Glory's take on "Head Over Heels" ... I can't stop listening to it, just unbelievably good:

"Friends" theme in a minor key 80s piano power ballad:

Yeah, it's not a metal cover, but it's freaking intense and raw.  Respect.
