FlyingBIZKIT's Roulette V3. REFER TO ROULETTE TRACKER THREAD
« on: August 07, 2019, 09:22:32 AM »
Hey everyone, it's been a while since my first two roulettes here, at least three years. Quite a bit has changed since then in my life, but I still have a love for discovering new music. I'll get into my tastes shortly. This is going to be a straightforward roulette, and I will be capping the amount of participants at thirteen. I've been pretty busy with graduate school so I don't want to get too complex with themes, perks, whatever the kids are doing these days.

Banned Artists:

It is likely that I'm forgetting some artists. Worst case, you'll just have to resend a song if I already know it.

Tastes

My tastes are all over the place. I'm receptive of many genres. If I had to do a top 5 bands right now (in no order), I'd say:

Porcupine Tree/Steven Wilson
Between the Buried and Me
The Dear Hunter
Leprous
Pink Floyd

Things you may want to be careful sending are songs in the realm of prog metal. I typically love progressive music, but there's a lot of it that I find incredibly cheesy and boring. It's a genre that's hit or miss for me. For example, I have never been able to get into Pain of Salvation and I'm not sure I ever will.. Concerning harsh vocals, I love bands like BTBAM, Opeth, and Gojira, but I wouldn't typically consider myself a "metalhead". I appreciate instrumental music, contemporary classical, electronic, folk, indie, you name it!

Albums I've been digging lately:

The Assassination of Julius Caesar - Ulver
Red - King Crimson
Pretty Hate Machine - Nine Inch Nails
Signals - Rush
Duke - Genesis
Memoryhouse - Max Richter
Dissolution - The Pineapple Thief

Participants

1. senecadawg2
2. Cyril
3. Kattelox
4. Tomislav95
5. Evermind
6. Lethean
7. Sacul
8. Stadler
9. TAC
10. Puppies_On_Acid
11. Train of Naught
12. Kwyjibo
13. Elite

Rules

Very simple. There will be 12 rounds, 13 participants; elimination style. After 3 rounds, the bottom three in scoring will be eliminated. Starting in the 4th round, one participant will be eliminated each round. By the 12th round, there should be two participants left. This round will be an EP round, with rules TBD. Scoring will be done on a 1-10 scale. When elimination begins (after the 3rd round of scoring), in case of a tie-breaker, I will have those specific participants submit another entry and I will choose my favorite. To visualize, here is how it will look.

Round 1 - 13 Participants
Round 2 - 13 Participants
Round 3 - 13 Participants, Bottom 3 Eliminated after round finishes.
Round 4 - 10 Participants
Round 5 - 10 Participants, Bottom 2 Eliminated after round finishes.
Round 6 - 8 Participants
Round 7 - 8 Participants, Bottom 2 Eliminate after round finishes.
Round 8 - 6 Participants
Round 9 - 6 Participants, Bottom 2 Eliminated after round finishes.
Round 10 - 4 Participants
Round 11 - 4 Participants, Bottom 1 Eliminated after round finishes.
Round 12 - 3 Participants partake in EP round. EP rules to be determined at beginning of round.

Submissions

Please, if possible, send me songs available on Spotify. I listen to a lot of music while driving so youtube links are not preferred. If you really want to send me something not accessible on Spotify, please let me know and we will discuss.

Also, please submit your next round submissions within 24 hours of posting results. In the case that more than one person submits the same song, I will ask that second person to resubmit something new, and to be fuckin' original.

Yeah it is, but I'm planning to go at an expedited pace. It'll go quicker and quicker with less participants each round!

I was gonna take a roulette break but making it to Buddy's final round has restored confidence in myself. Let's do it. I will send something today, probably this evening.
From a Mega Man Legends island jamming power metal to a Walrus listening to black metal, I like your story arc.

I wanted to take a little break from roulettes but it looks like I haven't ever played in your roulettes before! Therefore I think I'm in for this one.

I own 0 albums from "I've been digging lately" list, this is gonna be good.
This first band is Soen very cool swingy jazz fusion kinda stuff.

Sure, I'll add all of you. I'm just going to change all the rules, now that you messed everything up, Elite. The only thing that changes now is the bottom three will be eliminated after the 3rd round, instead of two.

Okay, everyone's in. Send me your songs! So far, I have 3 submissions. 10 remaining. If possible, try to send within 24 hours!

Also, likely not doing the hangman thing. Will definitely do first impressions though.

Of course!

And just a note for all participants. Yes, there's quite a bit of rounds, but to be honest, I will plan to spend a week at most on a round. This will not take twelve weeks. As the roulette progresses, especially starting in round 4, it will become a quicker process. So, if results come surprisingly quick, just know that I am still taking time and devoting attention to each and every submission. :heart
