The trailer is finally here! It looks fantastic.

From Wikipedia:

Quote
The Irishman is the story of Frank Sheeran, a mob hitman and World War II vet who develops his skills during his service in Italy. Now an old man, he reflects on the events that defined his career as a hitman, particularly the role he played in the disappearance of labor leader Jimmy Hoffa, his longtime friend, and his involvement with the Bufalino crime family.

Quote
The Irishman is an upcoming American biographical crime film directed by Martin Scorsese and written by Steven Zaillian, based on the book I Heard You Paint Houses by Charles Brandt. The film stars Robert De Niro, Al Pacino and Joe Pesci. It is the ninth feature collaboration between De Niro and Scorsese and their first since 1995's Casino, the fourth film to star both De Niro and Pacino (following The Godfather Part II, Heat, and Righteous Kill), and the first time Pacino has been directed by Scorsese. With a production budget as high as $200 million, it is one of the most expensive films of Scorsese's career.

In September 2014, The Irishman was confirmed as Scorsese's next film following Silence (2016). Pacino and De Niro were confirmed that month, as was Pesci, who came out of his unofficial retirement to star after being asked numerous times to take the role. Filming was in New York City and the Mineola and Williston Park sections of Long Island, from September 2017 until March 2018.

It is scheduled to have its world premiere at the New York Film Festival on September 27, 2019. The film's international premiere will be at the BFI London Film Festival on October 13, 2019. The film is set to have a limited theatrical release, followed by digital streaming in late 2019 by Netflix.

Definitely interested in this, Scorsese plus a great cast with a story that seems perfect for this group.  I'm really interested in seeing Joe Pesci, I loved him in Goodfellas.

While I’m sure this will be a fine film....for me it’s almost like ‘OK, we get it. Scorsese can make a mob movie and DeNiero and Pesci can act like gangsters’ Again, I know it’s a different story and all but it feels and looks pretty ‘safe’ to me.

And....for me personally.....I can’t ignore what a huge D Bag Denerio has been with how outspoken politically he’s been. There’s no quicker way to get me disinterested in you as an actor or musician than to use your fame to continually harp on what ‘you’ think is right. Especially from your position of wealth and fortune.

Even though De Niro and Pacino are two of my all-time favorite actors (because of their work last century, not this century), I wonder if they can still carry a film as leads given how both have sort of become caricatures of themselves in recent years, although Scorsese is probably one of few who can still get killer performances out of them.

Looks kinda meh...more of the same with Scorsese. Also how is Al Pacino going to play Jimmy Hoffa. al Pacino is 79 years old and Hoffa disappeared when he was 62...

De-aging CGI these days is ridiculous. Look at how Sam Jackson looks in Captain Marvel.

This whole film probably isn't going to surpass the scene in Heat where McCauley and Hanna have coffee.

That's one of my favorite scenes ever made. Having them be adversaries in Heat was a genius move.

For all those thinking this will be the same as other Scorsese films... I don't disagree.  It seems to be just another one of his mob movies with the same cast.  I doubt it will be any better than his classics.  Having said that, I do think it could still be a really entertaining movie with some classic scenes.  That's what I am hopeful for.  Which leaves me thinking, Scorsese was involved with HBO's Vinyl show which bombed.  He only directed the first episode, but if you never saw it, this one scene is one of my favorites ever in television and is such classic Scorsese.  So if he can produce more scenes like this, even in a movie similar to one Ive seen, I think it could still be really enjoyable.

If it's nothing more than "Scorcese by the numbers", it will be one of the best films released this year, so that's fine with me.

I agree - it might be another mobster De Niro-Scorsese picture but I'll happily take that over almost anything else in a given year because you know it's gonna be damn good no matter what.

Yea pretty much, the guy can still make amazing scenes and even if he doesn't stray far from his beaten path, it will likely still be very enjoyable.

Early reviews are quite positive, the movie's 3 1/2 hour and I'm hoping to catch it in a theater somewhere hopefully near me. Otherwise Netflix it is.

Reviews sound amazing.

I hope I get a chance to see it in theaters before it hits Netflix.  But if not, so be it.

The 3.5 hours makes me not want to see it in a theater.  Kind of interesting route though to go to netflix so quickly.  Honestly, I think that works well for folks like me who don't care for the movie theater experience anymore.  I'd go for movies I really want to see, this is actually one of them, but 3.5 hours in a theater is a really long time for me.  I get angsty sitting for so long.

I think it is the other way around, it is interesting that Netflix does a somewhat significant theatrical run (more than the Oscar minimum), because they produced the film.

Edit: I was wrong, Netflix is only distributor. In that case it is indeed interesting. Perhaps getting a film this long into theaters is a pain and they didn't  want to compromise in that regard (and Netflix is happy to pay for rights to a film like this).

I hadn't looked into the details on why they did it this way, but I assumed Netflix payed for some rights to get it quickly and the movie was happy to do so knowing it might fade quickly in theaters being so long, it might be best for the consumer to get such a long movie to consume the movie in a way that is quickly becoming the norm for this medium.  It could be a sign of the future as well.  I don't know, as I said, I'm really not a big movie guy anymore so this suits me well.  I'd imagine I'm not the only one who likes this coming to your home quickly.

Finally watched it a few days ago.  I loved it.  Classic Scorsese.  It's really long though and the story moves pretty quickly with lots of characters so I felt a lot of it got lost on me on first watch, but it didn't stop me from really enjoying it overall.  I think it just means I need to watch again and since I enjoyed it, even though its really long, I think I will make the effort to watch again.

I was actually sick, which had me in bed watching lots of TV and hence why I finally had the time to sit through this.  I kept falling asleep though during the scenes with Sebastion Maniscalco, so every time I woke up, I rewound to that and rewatched it which was kind of funny.  I loved his character and his ending  :lol but that scene with Hoffe and the little guy was soooo good, instantly one of my favorites from Scorsese. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ntpwLPAnRJQ

Saw it yesterday.

Amazing. Really loved it. Joe Pesci man.

I honestly only have one complaint. Wanted more Harvey Keitel. I love him and he was just not in it enough (though was great when he was).

Finally watched it as well. I split it in two evenings, 3 hours and a half were just too much so I figured I could just remove the length issue and spread it over two evenings.

Nice and solid offering, I'd call it one of those strong albums from a band later in its carrer... you enjoy it, but the classics were something else. It was nice anyway to go through the atmosphere of the 60's, and I see it as Scorsese having some good and masterful fune one last time with his favorite actors while they're all still here.

Given the sheer length of it I don't think I'll watch it ever again, but it was cool enough to not regret it.

Amazing movie, and quite a chilling essay on regret at the end of the road. It could be said this is for the gangster genre what Unforgiven is to western.

Joe Pesci is incredible. He excels both in the 100m dash (the fiery loud mouth in Good Fellas) and in the marathon (this icy reptile).

I tried watching this last night and turned it off about 40 minutes in after being bored out of my mind.  No way was I dedicating another 3 hours to it, especially since nearly everyone I know has told me that the last hour or so of it is really slow.  Bummer cause I am big fan of Scorsese, De Niro, Pesci and Pacino, but I can't force myself to like something.

For sure, but incidentally, it's what gives the whole movie meaning. I'm not saying you should force yourself to watch it, if you don't like it, you don't like it, but saying that the last part is slow it's like saying that Octavarium takes a long time to build up - technically correct, but it's totally not the point.
