I'm here to start a fight - the thread

Let me explain - in this thread someone will post about a recent album that someone here has hyped up that fell flat for you.  Then people should jump in on either side.  Maybe someone will say something that will make someone reconsider.  And try to stay away from things that are clearly a taste mismatch.  It should be an album you would expect to like but just misses the mark.  When the convo dies out, someone else should jump in the ring.  Keep the albums somewhat recent.

I'll start with the inspiration for this thread. 

The new TesseracT album.  It has not grabbed my attention in any way shape or form after several listens.  I've moved on and gravitated towards things heavier and lighter than it, so I don't really think it is a taste thing.  In all honestly the two other albums I have of them never got traction for me either but when SOMEONE started hyping it as their AotY over the Japanese bands they seem to have gravitated toward - I figured I'd check it out.

This is too cryptic, I'll never work out who you are referring to.

I'll jump in to say I fully agree. I'll go further to say that I find Tesseract one of, if not THE, most overrated modern prog metal bands. I've tried all of their albums many, many times and can't name a single song that has moved me in any way! The new one is the same.

Put it this way, on my 2023 album ranking, it's currently sat at #120, out of 165 albums.

No way can TesseracT be that overrated.  They've just released their best album since their first or second one, depending upon your preference, and they have a vocalist that can sing, unlike several other bands on the front page.

And just because I've been gravitating to Japanese bands doesn't mean I've turned my back on other stuff. I can multi-task man...it's kind of a super-power of mine.


In fact, on my current AOTY rankings, I'd say my highest Japanese output is probably at 3 or 4, pending on how well Spiritbox grows on me.

War of Being rules, and so does Tesseract in general.  I don't know if there's much I could say to convince anyone otherwise though.  Great vocals, great songs, and the bass player and drummer are totally awesome.

That's indeed a bold assumption since you like King Gizzard that much
