10 Years with you losers....

Today marks ten years since I joined DTF, and words can't begin to express what this community means to me nor the impact it's had on my life. I would consider a good deal of you very, very close friends, closer than most in my area, and a few of you are irreplaceable parts of my life.

Agreed. This community helps ground me more than any of the ‘physical’ environments I experience in my day to day life. The varying opinions and life experiences here challenge me to take a hard look at myself from time to time and I don’t get a lot of that wrapped in the comfort of the ‘world bubble’ I live in each day.

It’s a fascinating time in human history when one can consider individuals you’ve only met and conversed with online or through texts, valued friends. Which I consider many of you to be. And for those of you of whom I’ve disagreed with or we share a different fundamental outlook on life....I still appreciate those interactions because they do force me to reflect on ‘why’ I believe or think the way I do.....and you’ve helped me grow as a person.

Damn gents, I've been here since May 18, 2007. I don't know if that includes the DTF.net days. I don't think it does because I was here when LAB was just coming out in 2004. Over 15 years. Crazy to think about the fact that I've known some of you for more years than I haven't.

I have no idea how long I've been with a version of this community. I think, to some small degree, I started near the release of either 6DOIT or ToT but was largely unknown until maybe 10 years ago too.


Luckily I've gotten to know a few of you pretty well on here, and even less of you off of here. But hopefully that last number will grow when I move to the east coast.

RJ, love you man. You definitely hit the nail on the head about the community. This is pretty much the best place on the internet, as far as I'm concerned. The people here are fantastic.

I'm not sure but I think the profile date only counts one incarnation of DTF. There have been domain changes and whatnot, and they're not included. Note that Hef, Rumborak, and Adami both have the same registration date of 12 years ago. It's also a full year after the Score show, and I'm pretty sure they were all members before that.

As for myself, I posted a setlist and review of the 6D show after the played Dallas, which would have been in early 2002. After that I didn't post again until 2008.

Oh yea, I know I was around long before 12 years ago. I just don't remember when. Long before the big splits between DTF and 5/8, and before most of the other major changes as well.

Well, here's whats easily obtainable regarding the board incarnations:

EZBoard Elder - Requirement: registered and posted on the original DT EZBoard between June 2000 and July 2002
DT.net Veteran - Req: first registered and posted during the first years of the DT.net vBulletin board, July 2002 through ~2004 (give or take a few, if users' memory serves correct)
DT.net Member - Req: first registered and posted on DT.net in 2005 or later
DTF.com Member - first registered and posted during the existence of DTF.com, after the shutdown of DT.net
DTF.org Member - first joined and participated in the community at the current site, after the Board Split

Seems like a safe bet that the com/net split happened in May of 07, which is displayed registration date of plenty of oldtimers.

I"m virtually certain that the registration date when the board came back after one of the (two?) major crashes.

I first found this community in the 8vm release cycle.

Other than one guy I've know since high-school, my most sustained and best friendships are from here - you know who you are.  If you're wondering whether you're in that group, you're probably not.     jk.  I consider all of you guys (and the odd 'gal') friends.  I'm just bummed I don't get to travel like I used to, and my times of catching people live are few and far between.

Also, am I the only one who read the thread as "10 Years with you hosers.... " ?

I too love this place. I registered on the EZ Board way back in the summer of 2000. I think Itchy may have run it by himself in the early days, but I'm not sure. There may have been another cat seriously involved at the time. Jim, maybe? I can't remember, and am probably remembering it wrong. I think I only posted 5 or 6 times during that version.

I write for a living. But, I can honestly say that I can't put into words what this forum has meant to me in my life.

I remember first going on the DT official website at school and stumbling upon the forum link. Started reading and wanted to post some thoughts and joined. Since then, I've been coming here and reading, now mainly the Discussion and Music threads.

Met a few people on here at last year's Progpower. Wish I was going this year though.

I enjoy this place and is one of the best things on the net.
