ROUND 6 RESULTS

Cyril: fun. – Be Calm

You sent me the song by this band in one of my previous roulette but that song didn’t make lasting impression on me so I never checked out the album. I like this one much better though. The selling point for me were vocal melodies, of course. We both like it when it’s this catchy and still not too simplistic so keep it coming :P There are few places where instrumental become too much but it’s fine while vocals are this good. BTW my favourite part of the song is around 3:00 when singer goes high.

11 points

Sacul: Failure – The Nurse Who Loved Me

Yes, this one seemed really familiar and it took me some time to realize APC covered it. It’s been a while since I listened to that album and never got into it so I let it slide. Second thing I realized was that it sounds like something Nirvana would do. It’s my girlfriend’s favourite band (sadly) and she confirmed it as well. I don’t like Nirvana. But this is one step better than anything they did. Melodies are similar but I find this more emotional and more sincere. So yeah, I don’t like Nirvana :lol Really close to being my favourite of your submissions, maybe even the favourite.

10.5 points

Stadler: Fish – View from the Hill

I wouldn’t say I’m fan of Marillion but I know (and like) Misplaced Childhood and Clutching at Straws. This one sounds like something from either of those albums. I like how melodic this music is and at first sounds like the easy listen but it’s really layered and there’s a lot going on. Also, I like Fish’ vocals. One of your best submissions so far. Which album of his would you recommend?

9 points

Lethean: Angel Dust – Bleed

Firstly, I’m sorry about that comparison, I wrongly put this one after Cynthesis instead before it. Similarly to some other songs, this one is a bit forgetful to me, for some reason I had hard time getting into it. But once the chorus hit me it really hit me :D When it comes to power metal this is the type I enjoy a lot, it’s not too cheesy and melodies are pretty dark and emotional. BTW great vocals, I like his screaming.

8.5 points

Kattelox: Robert Plant – Harm’s Swift Way

Few years ago I downloaded Led Zeppelin’s latest live video (Celebration Day) and while listening to classics I though how good Robert Plant sounded for his age. Also, he made some of the songs even better. For example, I like Stairway to Heaven in this rendition more because he overcame some of his flaws caused by age and overturned them in his in his behalf. His voice matured really well and it alone is selling point for me. The song itself is just nice, nothing special and a bit repetitive but I enjoyed it a lot.

8 points

wolfking: Almah – Beyond Tomorrow

I’m so happy choir is not present more than it is because I’m sick of it in this type of music tbh. This song reminds me of Avantasia a bit but I guess it’s heavier and it has better singer. The song itself isn’t anything specials but it rocks hard and it’s enjoyable for the most part. I didn’t had hard time getting into it as I did with all of your other submissions.

7 points

TAC: Dreamwalkers Inc – Endless

This is one of those songs I enjoy while listening to them but forget about right after. Like I couldn’t remember a lot about it. The thing I know though is the drumming is great and I always find myself air drumming to it. And most of often instrumental parts are better, parts with vocals are kinda formulaic but not bad. Will still probably check them out.

6.5 points

senecadawg2: Bill Callahan – One Fine Morning

You might have been surprised when you saw this is your least liked song but it’s actually there with “On your worst day” which I still liked, you’re just that damn consistent. This song really reminds me of Leonard Cohen and Micah P. Hinson, the good news is that I like their music, the bad is that it took me a while to start liking it. Could imagine myself liking this, too, but right now I’m not really that into it. Don’t get me wrong, still a nice song.

6 points

Kwyjimbo: Raging Honkies – Don’t make me hate

I took me some time to start to appreciate this one. It’s has a nice groove, great bass lines and riffs, vocals are a bit of an acquired taste but I like that type of vocals. It’s nice but not something I’d usually listen to and it’s a bit boring after a while.

5 points

FlyingBIZKIT: The Aristocrats – Spanish Eddie

I heard of them before but never checked out because I though it sounds wanky. And it’s a bit less wanky than I thought it would be and more jazzy. But I’m not really into this kind of music and don’t like instrumentals. It has some nice parts though, my favourite being the most metal part (near the end). Don’t think I’ll check them out further.

4.5 points

home: Mount Kimbie – Blue Train Lines

I would describe this music as harsh and so will be this write-up. I can hardly stand his voice and instrumental isn’t than interesting either. The thing I like is that they combine rapping with a bit of singing and it sounds pretty emotional. Sadly, that’s all I like about it. Can’t say I’d willingly listen to and full album of this, sorry :’(

2.5 points + 1.5 = 4 points

Evermind: Big Big Train – The Ivy Gate

Received them before and loved that song, checked out the album and didn’t like it. So I allowed this with wish to finally get into them. But I didn’t like this one, sadly. To be honest, it sounds like some folk metal band doing folk only album or something, like they aren’t on their territory and it shows. A bit boring and overlong. I don’t hate it, it’s just that I know you can do better than this. Instrumental break is nice.

3.5 points

Puppies_On_Acid: Mithras – On Strange Loops

When you said this is different technical death metal I expected it to be different. Can’t hear what’s so different though. There are still some tech death bands I listen to from time to time but I mostly don’t like this style anymore. My pet peeve about it is that it’s always heavy and it too much for me. I don’t think it’s not enjoyable though. I like the guitar solo and few calmer parts. Probably won’t check them out, I couldn’t listen to an hour of this  :/

That's not nearly as bad as I was expecting, though the Cyril lead is a bit daunting. Hopefully two rounds will be enough to bridge the gap.

Just sent mine off, actually, because I'm gonna wing it. I sent something I think a lot of people here have heard, whether they're aware of it or not. It's in a popular film from 1999.

Well that was a pleasant surprise!  No problems with the comparison - it's much better to be "wrong" that way than to post it as a higher one and then find out it was worse. :)  Glad you enjoyed it. :)  Hopefully I'll be able to come up with another one you like, at least a little.

but anyways tomi has it in his music tastes section that he doesn't really like much extreme metal outside of black metal (and i know he's picky about that too) so i've mostly just avoided metal outright because, ehh, heck it
