Hi, guys! It's been more than a year since my v2 ended and I wanted to run one more roulette. To be honest, I didn't like my second roulette that much because I didn't have that much time and near the end it just felt forced near the end, it took too much time for me to do the writeups etc. And also, I think I got much better songs in v1
But enough of the negative stuff, let's make this one great!
I still haven't decided on number of participants (thinking 8-12) but I'd like to have some new people, feel free to join. If there are „too many“ people we'll just do one elimination round or let everyone play. The more the merrier!
(I know some of you already signed up in Roulette thread but please do it here as well, just to make sure)
Participants:1. Cyril
2. Lethean
3. senecadawg2
4. FlyingBIZKIT
5. Puppies_On_Acid
6. Evermind
7. TAC
8. Kattelox
9. Sacul
10. home
11. Kwyjibo
12. wolfking
13. Stadler
Roulette format:So I decided to do something else this time. I didn't like elimination roulette at all and I don't like to play in those that much because I tend to play safer and that's less fun. This won't be elimination nor the usual, 1-10 points roulette. Instead, it'll be like this: the most points you can get in round is N where N is number of players, the least you can get is 1, and two songs can't get same score. But… it's not really ranking based yet something in between ranking and rating system because there are half points increments. Let's say there are 12 participants: if round is crazy good, the best song will get 12 points and the worst will get 6.5 (any other song will get something in between). If the round is really bad, the best song could get only 6.5 points. I think this way you could dominate if you really get my tastes but still get back on track if you fail miserably in 1 or 2 rounds. Also, the points you get are influenced by how good or bad others' songs are, yet not that much as in simple ranking roulette.
To make it even more interesting and give you a chance to redeem yourself in case you get low score (or just for fun): you can send me a song you think is tastebreaker and that way get 1-3 points more that you would otherwise, potentially shifting your rivals down by a few points (but you can't get more than maximum number of points). Few examples: jazz would probably get you a point since I like it but don't really listen to it that much and do not consider myself a fan. You'd get 3 points for something like reggae (I hardly ever heard it and I'm not sure if I want
). Hip-hop is somewhere in between. You'll have to make a case (a sentence or two), why you think you should get those bonus points and I'll consider it after I hear it for the first time (and you'll get a chance to resubmit if I don't think it's tastebreaker).
Other rules:- 8 open rounds
- you can just send me artist – song name in pm and I'll find song on Spotify but you can link me file, youtube or anything else for special version or if you know song is not available on Spotify
- once sent, band is banned in future rounds
- no time limit but beware, I'm not too keen of super long songs and I usually need some time to get into them
- send on time! (48h after results at last)
Tastes:(banned artists in second post)
Lately, I've realized I stopped exploring new music and this is the chance to get back on track with that. As of my favorite genres, I guess it’s all the same as it was in v2 with few changes. Prog is still my favorite genre, followed by indie rock/folk. New addition to my favorites is synthpop, both older (Depeche Mode, Tears for Fears, New Order) and newer (Ulver, Gunship, Carly Rae Jepsen). I don’t appreciate extreme music that much anymore, other than black metal which I hold in high regard. Can’t say I’m listening to it that much but started to like more straightforward rock and metal more than I did before. Iron Maiden somehow returned to my playlist, after not listening to them after I saw them live last year (that usually happens to me after live shows
).
And yes, I still love depressing music
