Moron Police v. "Pachinko" (Double Album) coming TBA
« on: June 22, 2019, 10:25:30 AM »
I know there are at least a few fans around here.

Their latest tune "Captain Awkward" was just released yesterday and it may be the best of the new tunes from their upcoming album "A Boat on the Sea."

I can't tell if that song is actually about a dog or something much darker. But I love it. So catchy

yeah this might be their best record. The drumming is crazy fast at points, kind of Jon Theodore-like.

Beware the Blue Skies and Captain Awkward are probably my favorites.

Spotify recommended me A Boat on the Sea on the first page. I thought that was the page of generic recommendation for sponsored music, which isn't my thing. However the artwork was cool and gave me a really good feeling so took a listen. Never heard of this band before.

Super happy I played it! What an awesome album! Not often I get the pleasure of hearing good progressive pop (which I identify this as). Reminds me of Subsignal La Muerta.

The Invisible King and Skies Beware the Blue Skies are immediate favorites but overall nothing stands out as blend or boring. Looked in progarchives and they aren't even there. I hope they find / have an audience!

How are their old albums? Worth going through the discography?

Absolutely worth it. The older albums are a bit heavier, but still very humorous.

Checkout  Defenders of the Small Yard. It's heavier, but similar.

Yepp definitely enjoyed Defenders of the Small Yard. Have to spin it some more but sounds a lot like the latest album. I am no much for humor and music but the damn melodies and tunes are awesome by itself so even T-Bag Your Grandma is highly enjoyable  ;D

That seems to be the thing with this band, they actually write and sing whatever they want but still seem to care a lot about the actual music. A lot of beautiful small segments inserted every now and then.

Haha with big risk of being the only person spamming this post and sounding a bit crazy, I just need to get stuff through my head. Like WTF! This is honestly the biggest WTF for me.

A Boat on The Sea is a masterpiece! What happened? Why is this band not mentioned anywhere? I googled and searched and NO ONE SEEMS TO CARE?! How did that goofy strange band transition into this? Why does it sound so god damn good. Why is the production / mixing better than most other bands I listened to this year with high budgets. Why is the artwork the best of any record for the last 10 years. WHY?! Nothing makes sense here. On YT they have like 1000 views on their music videos. I have seen people recording low quality videos of leaves flying around in the air with more views. How can these guys suddenly craft such fantastic songs?

THIS DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE. My wife usually likes some of the music I play but when I turn on Invisible King and Beware The Blue Skies she actually dig it. And I do to! A LOT!

It's vibrant as hell and just freaking fantastic and I am soooo confused :D My new goal in life will be to spread this fantastic album to all the poor people who haven't had the pleasure to hear it.

that's awesome Pettor.

I can relate, as once in a blue moon, my wife will like something I do (Bend Sinister, Timmy Sean, sElf)

Why they aren't more well known? I suppose part of it is the fact they have not released anything in 5 years.

Sondre actually is a member of Major Parkinson now as well.

But I have noticed a good amount more buzz about this record, showing up on many blogs and forums.

Aha cool! Thx for the find. Good interview to understand their situation better. Really hoping for that vinyl crowd funding! Having this album on vinyl would weirdly mean a lot. I love finding some hidden gems in music and this is definitely one of them.

I saw a small YT video from The Rock Critic that basically also added to that this album is a special release from them a bit out of nowhere:

https://youtu.be/xjuXsBx7pPI

I really wish this album gains some traction for the band. It's very much deserved. Me and my wife was blasting the album during a car ride just today and we both love it 😁

The lyrics actually hit me as really cool as well. The Hocus Pocus until Beware The Blue Skies war focus is both witty and clever.

Anyway this is the strange timeline where Tool finally release the new album and I am stuck with a band called Moron Police ☺️

It's happening! A Boat On a Sea in vinyl via Kickstarter. They managed so reach the goal in one day! So happy for them 😁

I am going for vinyl + digital + CD version. The album art is maybe my all time favorite so look forward to having it available in physical form.

Beware The Blue Skies came up on my Spotify Discover Weekly playlist. I enjoyed that song and listened to the entire A Boat On The Sea.

It's such a happy, bouncy, fun album. I love it. Favorites on first listen being The Phantom Below and Captain Awkward.

Then I listened to The Propaganda Machine and enjoyed that as well. It's so different from A Boat In The Sea, but it still has the sound.

A Boat In The Sea is like Progressive Ska Rock and The Propaganda Machine is Progressive Punk Country Metal.
I don't know how they can be so proud of winning with them odds. - Little Big Man

They released the bonus track Cult of Tuna to Spotify today:

It's a bit sillier than the songs on A Boat in The Sea but has similar sound to it. Nice  ;D

Please do yourself a favor and listen to A Boat on  the Sea! It's one of the most surprisingly good albums I ever heard. Still keep it rotating and have never heard of them before that album. It's a gem!

The Stranger and The Hidetide from the coming EP is out now!

Cool catchy cowboy tune that seems to indicate the maybe the band will stay a bit more on the serious side after A Boat on The Sea? For me this is honestly good news since I think ABOTS was album of the year and I still play it on regular basis. Their previous efforts was catchy as hell but also too much on the silly side for me.

Really shocking and sad news for the band.

Thore, Moron Police's drummer died in a car crash

It is with heavy hearts that we have to tell you that our drummer and best friend, Thore Omland Pettersen, passed away yesterday after sustaining fatal injuries in a car accident.
We are in shock. We spent yesterday crying and reminiscing, talking to friends near and far. We come from such a small community that this affects us all so deeply.
There really isn't anything we can say to help heal the loss of someone so dear to us. Words seem meaningless at this point. But for those of you who never had the chance to meet Thore, I'd like to tell you a bit about him:
I first met Thore when I was about 16 years old. Our band was going to play a show in Germany, but our drummer at the time couldn't make it. In comes Thore. And there he stayed.
His skill on the drums was undeniable, but his laugh was nothing short of legendary. He had an iconic way of laughing that would light up any room he was in. It was infectious. It was undeniable. You just had to join in. Thore was wholly unique in that everyone loved him. And I mean everyone. He was incredibly kind and thoughtful and just an enormous amount of fun. The man just exuded sunshine and laughter.
He was my dearest friend and brother. My musical compatriot. My little ball of sunshine and laughter. And the world seems so much darker now without him in it.
He leaves behind a mountain of cherished memories that we will always keep with us, as well as a musical legacy he was very proud of. Even the silly stuff. Particularly the silly stuff.
Our thoughts and condolences goes out to his family in these most horrible of times.
We will always love you, Thore.
-Sondre, Christian and Lars.

Whule Sondre also is involved with Major Parkinson and their upcoming album, he and Moron Police are working on a new, DOUBLE album titled "Pachinko."

I wonder if it won't be coming until 2023, but it's exciting to hear about, even with the loss of Thore, they are continuing on.

Hello everyone.

Just wanted to say thank you again for all the kind words and give you all a small update:

We’re doing good, all things considered.

Now where do we go from here? Well, we keep going, that’s for sure. It’s probably somewhat of a cliché to say, but it’s what Thore would have wanted, and it’s what we want.

We’re steadily working on our new album, tentatively called “Pachinko” right now. It’s a slow process of getting it all to fit and make sense. It’s a very big album. Probably a double album. Double albums usually fall to their own ambition, and this one might as well, but we’re having fun doing it nonetheless. And that’s good.

The songs are all written and we’re fine-tuning the demoes, so expect to hear more from us as we move along towards completion. We’ll be posting much more stuff both here, on our Instagram and through our newsletter—so, feel free to join along as we work on this behemoth. We’ll talk more about drums later!

Love
The Morons.

New Vlog uploaded to The Morons – join if you haven’t already! We’re on day three of drum tracking.
If you didn’t catch the news yesterday; the drummer for "Pachinko" is Billy Rymer from The Dillinger Escape Plan!
Billy was one of Thore's absolute favorite drummers, so we feel very privileged to be able to have him on board for this album as a session musician. And he sounds phenomenal!
