Bummer. Ok, forget the themes. Too much limitation for a (at best) 10% chance for an extra one point. Not worth it. I have no regrets on Serpentine - it's a 5-bell song in my books.

By the way with you comparing Vennart to Oceansize I hope you are aware Vennart is the former vocalist of the band and the Vennart albums are basically just the current incarnation of Oceansize  :lol (though significantly less good)

I appreciate you and Kat sending it, it just didn't spark joy.

As for the themes, it's cool if you'd rather ignore them (Tomi did so this round and it turned out pretty well for him), but this round should at least be less restrictive.

Yeah, I saw that. :tup I don't really like Oceansize either though.

I always thought they sounded sedated and soulless, but I appreciate that I'm in the minority on that one.

Round 2 Themes

  .

Aw, there's a way more popular Katatonia song for one of these themes...  :P  I like the one I sent better, but I assume most wouldn't.

It's also another round where I wish Angra wasn't banned.

Glad you didn't hate my song this time around. :)

Yeah I wasn't expecting to enjoy that song as much as I did either—just came out of nowhere for me.

And Rata Blanca's "Cuando La Luz Oscurece"

I forgot to mention why my submission fits the theme but it so obviously does that I probably don't need to tell you why

Convenient that the theme lined up with a song on my shortlist

:lol you'll get back in it!

Maybe I can give some insight about the themes though, too... Basically, y'all can interpret them as loosely as you want and still have a decent shot at getting the point. It can be as simple as "hey, that picture of the boat put me in this mood, which reminded me of that song." One of my favorites from the first round was Lethean's song, for which he said "yo, maybe spiders symbolize deception," and that was that. And the one that did end up winning wasn't because of the song's title or anything like that, it was just the mood. Other good ones were "Theon, the Fox," "Call me a Dog,"  and "I Need Some Fine Wine..." which do make more explicit references to the animals but were also really on point tonally.

Katatonia was one of your favorites?  I'm going to ignore that a bunch of other songs scored higher in that case, and just say  :metal

And I'll have you know - I looked up symbolism for each of the animals and now I'm getting ads for psychics and tarot cards and stuff.   :lol

Oh, absolutely my (and everyone's) tastes are a limiting factor.  But let's see... 19k songs in my library plus probably another 5k+ saved in Spotify vs maybe 200 with a reasonable connection back to the 5 pics in the proposed themes.  That's my reference to 'limiting'.

To be fair, so did I. More than anything else, I think this song just caught me at the wrong time. I suspect I would've been more into it a couple months ago when the days were shorter and I was spending most of my time indoors.

I'm taking a look at seneca's favorite artists and I'm honestly not familiar with ANY of them. I've heard some stuff by a couple of those artists but not enough to really 'know' them so I'm shooting in the dark here. I'll send something today for sure, I'm looking for a song right now.

Haha, yes indeed.  I saw earlier where someone said "TOTD - Romdrums" and I initially giggled to myself that "they got that wrong!" but apparently not!   It's a great song, though, so not surprised.
