Seneca v3 results
« on: June 18, 2019, 10:15:26 AM »
Greetings.

This roulette is going to be a bit different from most that I've played in and certainly different from my first two. I'd like to maximize engagement from the participants, who will be involved in selecting themes throughout the competition and even choosing a winner in the final round. The list of rules will be relatively extensive, but I'm not going to post all of them just yet. (Don't worry, there won't be anything too restrictive, and there will only be two rounds requiring larger submissions, if you make it past the first six or seven rounds.)

It would be helpful to first figure out how many people want to sign up, based on my banned list:

RULES

I'll be using a 10-point scale in all but the final round. Five is not bad but rather average.

[see below for rounds 4–7]

At the end of round 7, the two highest scoring contestants from each group will advance to the knock-out rounds. If there is a tie within a group, the seeds from rounds 1-3 will break the tie

I will pair the winner from group A with the runner-up from group B; the winner from group C with the runner up from group D; etc.

1A---|
        --semi-finalist---|
2B---|                       |
                                 ----finalist
3A---|                       |
        --semi-finalist---|
4B---|

4A---|
        --semi-finalist---|
1B---|                       |
                                 ----finalist
2A---|                       |
        --semi-finalist---|
3B---|

Round 8 submissions will be either an EP, a Greatest Hits compilation (from one band), or a full album. The four top seeds from their respective groups will vote on which format they prefer. In the event of a tie, I will open the vote to the four runners-up. In the event of a second tie, I will ask a random person on the street to break the tie.

Round 9 submissions will be in one of the two formats not selected for round 8 (EP, Greatest Hits, or full album). This will, again, be determined by vote.

If any of these rules don’t please you and you’d like to suggest an alternative, I’m more than happy to put it to a vote. However, rule changes will require at least 10 votes, approximately 3/5ths supermajority. This is my roulette, after all ;)

Submissions

There is no length limit for any of these first three rounds (after that, depends on the themes chosen in your group).

My preference for submission is just the name of the artist and song - no link required - so that I can simply look it up on Spotify and throw all the submissions into a single playlist. If you know for sure that it is not on Spotify, you can send it me however else you prefer.

Regarding the whole "maximizing engagement from the participants" thing, will we be required to dedicate much time to this outside of just sending you songs? I'd be interested in joining, but I'm trying not to over-commit myself given that my own roulette will likely take up a lot of my time.

I may have overstated the point. There may be things to vote on (this will not be mandatory) and you will have to choose a theme for one of the rounds, should you make it that far, but overall it shouldnt require any more time than a normal roulette. The engagement im looking for is mainly shithousery between y'all.

My theme is "Death Metal Bands From Andorra"

Omg... I did a grade 10 Geography project on the nation of Andorra.  I subtitled it "The place where there is very little place".  :lol
That's a word salad - and take it from me, I know word salad
I fear for the day when something happens on the right that is SO nuts that even Stadler says "That's crazy".

Just out of curiosity I checked my RYM page to see if I had any bands from Andorra. The only 2 that could be considered Death Metal would be Persefone and Nami. Both great bands too and both leaning more towards Progressive Death Metal.

I peed next to Ian Mosley and Mark Kelly
Derek Sherinian probably stands 10 feet away from the urinal, shoots from downtown, and announces loudly that he's making history.

If there's still room mate, I'll play.  If not, no probs.  16 seems like a lot.
Everyone else, except Wolfking is wrong.
