Are you sure you haven't programmed some experimental algorithm that analyzes my musical tastes and produces the single most optimal song to send? Except it takes a while to run and that's why it usually takes you a few days to send?

That's why I'm leading on tomislav's roulette as well . But such and algorithm wouldn't be much different than last.fm or Spotify's recommendations. Might be an interesting thesis project though mnnnn

I have all of the submissions for the roulette in a single Spotify playlist, and whenever the playlist ends and it automatically takes me to a "similar" song, like 80% of the time it gives me this same damn album and I have no idea why

Agreed. Their The Martyrdom of a Catastrophist album is like 10 times better.....ok maybe not that good, but it is great!

Arcturus - For To End Yet Again

First Impressions: That was weird. I think I liked it? I definitely liked the last half of it.

This is much more up my alley compared to the stuff you’ve been sending up to this point. It’s got a weird, avant-garde metal sound with some unconventional instrumentation, and that’s almost always a plus in my book. The synths are often unorthodox, and the trumpets that come in towards the end are a great touch. Structure wise, the song has a heavier beginning and end, with an ambient section in the middle linking them together. This middle section is the only part I’m torn on; it does a good job at linking the beginning and the end together, but the first part with the piano definitely goes on for a bit too long. That said, I really like when it suddenly gets a lot darker sounding, then explodes back into the full band shortly afterwards. And the finale of this track is just fantastic; I’d say the build-up to it is largely worth it. I love how climactic it sounds, and that crazy keyboard solo at the end is just awesome. The ending is a bit abrupt, but that’s alright. I liked this one a lot.

Just stopping by to say that song rules, and so does Arcturus.

I liked the warm, comforting atmosphere at the start, but the song seemed to abandon that as it progressed.

Sounds like something that would be played at a little foreign cafe, or something. Can’t say I expected you to send something like this.

This is very 90s-sounding, and not really in a good way.

This definitely seems like the kind of metal I like. The calmer section was really nice, too.

Between this and your other song, I can’t say I’m really into this band’s sound.

This song felt like it was right on the verge of letting loose and going wild the entire time, but it never quite did.

Bright and pleasant, but not particularly moving.

Dramatic and dynamic. Still not sure if I’m sold on this band yet, but there’s potential here.

I actually found the cleaner parts of this song to be the most captivating.

I think the song title left more of an impression on me than the song itself.

Completely different from the other song you sent this round, and much, much better. Very beautiful.

Sounds very classic prog. That style isn’t usually too up my alley, but we’ll see if this grows on me.

This had the energy that I was left wanting from the other song.

Seems very focused on the vocals, which I can’t say are bad, but I’m not sure if I personally enjoy them.
