Buddyhunter1's Roulette v4: Post-Roulette Updates: Sacul

Second Roulette: https://www.dreamtheaterforums.org/boards/index.php?topic=43933.0
Third Roulette: https://www.dreamtheaterforums.org/boards/index.php?topic=48099.0

Hey folks, it's time for another one of these! My last roulette was unfortunately running at one the most busy times of my life - I was busting my ass off in my senior year of college and I just didn't have much time to dedicate to the roulette. As a result, it ended up being pretty basic and slow, and I believe I cut off the last round because I was done with it at that point. Thankfully, I'm now working full-time at a job that gives me plenty of time to listen to music, and my goal with this roulette is to make it much more fun and interesting for everyone involved.

---RULES---

- There will be eight rounds, with some being themed, and others being open.
- At various points, the bottom-ranking participants will be eliminated until there are only three participants left for the final round. In the event of ties, a quick tiebreaker round between the tied contestants on the verge of being eliminated will occur. See the "rounds" section below to see where the eliminations will take place.
- Submitted songs cannot be 14 minutes or longer, unless the round specifically allows for something longer.
- I'll allow submissions that are 2-3 tracks that form a single cohesive piece, if they're under the time limit and I judge them to be cohesive enough, which will have to be a case-by-case basis thing.
- For song submissions, a Spotify link is preferred. If the song isn't on Spotify, sending me a YouTube link or mp3 file is fine.
- The submissions for each round will be ranked from best to worst, and the higher your song ranks, the more points you get (1 point difference between each ranking). In addition, each contestant will have their own song rankings, so you can easily tell which of your submissions I liked the best and which ones I liked the least (this has no impact on scores).
- Each contestant will have two perks. Each one can only be used once in the roulette, you cannot use both in the same round, and no perks will be allowed in the final round. See the "perks" section below for more information.
- The structure of each round will be as follows: everyone submits their tracks, and once everyone has submitted, I post anonymous first impressions for each song and start a hangman. You're able to activate a perk if you want to during this point. As I get close to finishing the results, I'll announce a deadline to activate a perk for that round, otherwise it won't count. After that deadline, I'll update everyone's personal song rankings and then post the full results afterwards.
- No more than two songs per band can be submitted in this roulette. Check out the "Newly Banned" section below to see which ones become unavailable. I will also add bands to this list if I get a submission that I like enough.

---PERKS---

As mentioned above, you will have access to two perks in the roulette, which can each only be used in one round.
- You can activate a perk as soon as you submit, during the hangman, or after the hangman finishes before the perk activation deadline, which I will announce ahead of time.
- You cannot active both perks in a single round.
- No perks will be allowed in the final round. If you haven't used one by then, you will have wasted it.

The two perks are:
Double Score: You'll simply get double the amount of points for the round you use this in. Only use if you're confident I'll like your submission!
Ranking Swap: If you use this perk, your submission will automatically be bumped up one ranking, giving you more points, and the contestant you swapped with less points! However, if I was already going to rank your song at #1, this perk won't give you any extra points.

- If multiple contestants use the Ranking Swap perk in a single round, they will apply top to bottom. For example, if #2 and #3 both use it, they will become #1 and #2, respectively.
- The Ranking Swap perk will apply before the Double Score perk. If a contestant who used the Double Score perk gets knocked down by a contestant who used the Ranking Swap perk, their new, reduced score will be doubled, rather than their original score.
- Using the Ranking Swap perk will make you immune from the participant underneath you swapping with you if they also used the Ranking Swap perk, even if your song was already #1.

---ROUNDS---

Round 1: Opener
Round 2: Heavy
[Bottom 2 participants eliminated]
Round 3: Atmospheric
[Bottom 2 participants eliminated]
Round 4: Open
[Bottom 3 participants eliminated]
Round 5: Double Submission (two songs from the same artist)
Round 6: Epic (10-23 minute requirement)
[Bottom 2 participants eliminated]
Round 7: Semifinal / Open - last chance to use perks!
[Bottom 2 participants eliminated]
Round 8: Top three contestants submit a full album. The winner of this round wins the roulette, regardless of prior score.

Does Opener mean first song off an album?

Yes, but not exclusively. Any song that would work well as the first song in an album or live setlist will work.

I'll clarify / offer more details for the themes for each round as they come up.

Yeah, count me in.  Your "favorites" aren't any of mine, so I'll have to go a couple of degrees off course from my usual fare, but I ought to be able to send stuff that doesn't make you want to throw up in your ears.
That's a word salad - and take it from me, I know word salad

Also you all don't need to worry about submitting for Round 1 quite yet - I'm not going to start listening until everyone's joined.

Whoo boy, gonna cap it at 14, then. This was more people than I was anticipating, so more people get eliminated at each cutoff point to compensate. And with that, let's get started!

ROUND 1: OPENER
Time to make a good first impression. Send me any song that would work well as the opener for an album or live set, however you interpret that. Note that the song doesn't have to come from the start of its respective album; you can send a song that isn't an opener but sounds like one (i.e. Metropolis Part 1 or Bridges In The Sky).

Once everyone submits and I've given every song a listen, I post my first impressions (without revealing which song is which) and we'll get a hangman going.
