^Largest commercial and defense aerospace company in the world with employees worldwide.

Oh and BTW, another thing to be pissed off about...grocery stores.  :\  Forget about the stray carts in the parking lot.  That's nothing compared to what we have to deal with now.  JFC!!

No kidding!  My wife and I went to Costco last night to just get some regular stuff.  They were out of everything we planned to get.  So instead we just made a game out of it and went down the isles and pretended that all their products were "doomsday" related.  So we kept asking each other if we needed any "doomsday (insert item)"  Like doomsday couches, doomsday printer paper, doomsday tvs and so on.  It turned out disapointing shoping trip into something fun that made us laugh.

I think we’ve got a two month supply at the moment.  My wife said, “if we’re quarantined, I don’t see why we need to treat it like a bunker.”  She also grabbed wine, chocolate, steaks, and snacks.   ;D

Because of this thread, I went out and grabbed some bacon for the wife, and fried it while listening to my version of Elton John's best of. :D

Lysol wipes, hand sanitizers, and disposable gloves were the only items with a low count at our store.

They were, however, out of bidets!

While crisis can bring out the best in humanity, it can also bring out the worst.

https://www.thestar.com/news/canada/2020/03/13/amazon-blocks-account-of-couple-who-bought-up-lysol-wipes-at-costco-and-resold-them-online-for-profit.html

"the couple had spent about $70,000 on Lysol wipes and liquid cleaners over the past few weeks and made more than $100,000 in sales to individuals and businesses."

Sadly, they've already (short-term) profited, but the backlash against them is going to far outweigh that short-term profit.

I'm starting to hear that Costco is enacting a 1-limit restriction.  Hopefully it's an official store policy - though, it'd be hard to police people from multiple trips.

I don't feel so bad now for grabbing 20 chicken thighs and 4 dozen eggs.  :lol  Yeah, people who try to profit off of this are about the lowest of the low.

Update on that guy - https://www.wrcbtv.com/story/41897345/colvin-brothers-donate-stockpiled-sanitizer-while-tns-attorney-general-facilitates

They are donating them to a local church now, but the AG of TN is investigating them anyway.

I work in a hospital (in Canada), the biggest in my region, and I'm always moving around the entire campus, which means I'm right in there with everyone.

I have a compromised immune system which puts me at a higher risk to catch this, or anything really, so I'm trying to be safe and not risk exposure.  I don't have it and I'm not presumptive or "self-quarantining", I'm totally healthy, but in a higher risk demographic.

I figured, "hey, it's Canada, our health care is awesome here", and that they'd do special paid leave and not use regular sick time (which I'm out of at the moment) but they haven't actually said anything about it officially.  So, assuming we're cool, I took this week off and found out today that they are NOT doing special paid leave and it's just coded as regular sick time.

FUCK OFF.

Look at the shit that's happening around the world.  Even CHURCHES are shutting down, and they're going to pull this shit?  Now I've lost 5 days of income and have to choose between money or my health and possibly my life.

It's so nice to see a fellow Canuck who thinks our healthcare is "awesome".  Here in Ontario, it's a joke. God help the people that get sick.  Best estimate is that ICU beds are already at 100% capacity, so where are all the additionally sick people going to go.

Saw a post of a YT'r I follow and love for his brutal honesty, but he just came off like an ass-clown getting pissed off about bars closing and potential for curfew.

Why would you assume this if you don't have the virus and aren't self quantining?  Would you not speak to your employer first and about it before just assuming that you're 'cool'?  I mean, how are they to know what you are thinking?  If one of my staff just took a week off expecting the employer to cover it as exempt virus leave, I wouldn't be happy.

@ Northern Lion:  Thanks!

@ jingle.boy:  Ontario is definitely the hardest hit and some jackasses still don't "get it" and are mad about bars closing.  WTF.

@ wolfking:

Sorry, I left out the part where my Doctor said I shouldn't be at work and should be self-quarantining even though I'm not actually sick, and knowing the industry I work in (health care) and what's going on I figured it was a no-brainer.  I gambled on the trust that they would do the right thing.  I lost.

If it was a private business, like Staples or Wal-mart, I definitely wouldn't count on them to give a shit, but my public employer and union should definitely be caring since they absolutely know how serious this pandemic is.  I could catch it and carry it around for 5 days infecting more people before I show symptoms.

I'm also responsible for an off-site elderly care facility which includes a hospice, and in my area (Vancouver), those places have been the hardest hit by this and have the most deaths.  So here I am with a compromised immune system running into a lot of potential problem areas every day.

I kind of hope I catch it now so I can say "I told you so".  Churches, bars, events, sports, etc are all shutting down.  This thing is no joke.

Haha, ah yes, that is a vital piece of info then.  Hard lesson mate but anything in the workplace, cover your tracks.  Cross all the t's and dot all the i's, no matter where you work.  It's unfortunate these days that you can't assume that your workplace has your back.  You could also try and provide a medical certificate with the doctors recommendation and talk to your bosses and it maybe an option to get those days back?  I don't know, might be worth a shot.

No offense, dude, but "ASSUME" is the big problem here.  You've got to communicate.  I get being on the front line - my cousin is an ER nurse and has been exposed, though she is not presumptively positive (yet) - but you can't just do your thing in a vacuum, hope it works out, then be pissed when it doesn't.

Changing subjects:
And while I'm a capitalist more or less, I think you have to have a defensible point of view; that a-hole with the hand sanitizer, he had the temerity to say he was "doing a public service", resolving "inefficiencies" in the system.  WTF?  Who is more qualified at this point to reallocate resources of that kind; Costco/Wal-mart, or this schmoleon with a U-Haul?

Changing subjects again:
I do not understand the "hoard" mentality.  I can't get to Imgur (new work firewall) but I was at both a Big Y and a Stop And Shop this weekend; both stores had an abundance of fruit and vegetables.  Meat was... eh, good not great selection, milk was... eh, good not great...  No paper towels/toilet paper (the entire aisle was a barren shelf) and no instant Macaroni and Cheese.  That's not a typo.   But it dawned on me as I was driving home... don't you need milk and/or butter for Mac and cheese?  So if the theory is, "no electricity/running water in a lock down", how you gonna make that mac?   And if you don't have electricity and/or running water, what are you going to do with the waste toilet paper/paper towels?  Aren't you manufacturing your own little pile of waste that's only going to make sanitary conditions worse?

All this belongs here, because honestly, I'm pissed off at the lack of forethought and the lack of "rise to the occasion" that we as a society are showing.   We should be better than this.

Saw a post of a YT'r I follow and love for his brutal honesty, but he just came off like an ass-clown getting pissed off about bars closing and potential for curfew.

That fitness guy you responded to on Facebook? His post was about as ignorant as people can be in this type of situation. He mentioned something about 'freedom', which isn't going to be worth a thing if people start dying everywhere because hospitals can't treat everybody. Attitudes like his (and frankly, I'm seeing more of his kind pop up lately) are definitely pissing me off.
Hey dude slow the fuck down so we can finish together at the same time.

As I was driving to work today, and seeing everything you wrote in person, I couldn't help but think that this is the our "dress rehearsal" for the real end of the world. I was thinking that this "plague" (for lack of a better term) is our wakeup call to get our shit together.
would have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related
Winger Theater Forums........or WTF.  ;D
TAC got a higher score than me in the electronic round? Honestly, can I just drop out now? :lol

I read a quote on my sister's FB page today that kind of applies to what you're saying...

"Young children are going to remember how their family felt during this Coronavirus panic, more than anything specific about the virus.  Our kids are watching and learning about how to respond to stress and uncertainty.  Let's wire our kids with resilience, not panic"

That really resonated with me, and reminded me how I should be behaving through this crisis.

@ wolfking:  My tracks are pretty well covered, which is why I made the assumption in the first place.  The good news is that they're finally going to do something for people like me and will have something in place this week... or not.  There's still a chance they could do nothing.

@ Stadler:  I agree with the "ass of u and me".  I'm just too trusting.  It took me a long time to finally realize in the private sector (retail) that my value is basically shit.  I finally told that career to fuck off and went back to school and found the private sector (health care) was just the opposite and amazing so I figured with all this going on it would be a no-brainer.  I guess we'll see what's next.

Now that I'm working from home, I don't get out often enough to get pissed off.  :lol
