Logged into Facebook this morning, there are a couple of Notifications (for non-Facebook folks, you can ask to be notified when someone tags you in a picture, or mentions you in a post, or various other things) and one is from Mike.  I was curious, even got my hopes up for a second.  Facebook was just telling me that today is his birthday and I should wish him a happy birthday.  Yeah, I already did that the other day.

Someone said the real test is whether I was invited to the party as a guest after declining to play.  Nope.  After I emailed him back and said I couldn't do it, he wrote back and thanked me for at least thinking about it.  There was no "But hey, definitely stop by, it would be great to see you again one last time."  There was nothing else.  Suspicions confirmed.
