Messa – LeahDark and smoky. Great guitar solo.Oooh yeah… For doom metal this has quite chill vibe. Production is amazing, with growly guitars, cold organ and really 70s-sounding lead guitar. Sara’s vocals are a bit distant in the mix, which I feel adds to the gothic atmosphere:
Turn off the lights. Pull the curtains over the windows. Light a black candle. RAISE YOUR CHALICEEEE!

Mazzy Star – Fade Into YouWhile it is repetitive, it has a lovely, laid-back vibe.A ballad built around strummed guitar chords with some lovely slide guitar and piano rounding up the sound. I really like Hope’s vocals and I don’t really know why, but this one hit me in the feels. The laid back, slightly melancholic music makes me kinda want to hug someone. I’ve heard this one before, but it was better than I thought.

Aeolias – OdysseusGreat drum sounds and a lovely driving beat. The vocals feel maybe slightly too operatic for my tastes.Yeah, so apparently these guys are super unknown. I can’t really think a reason for that based on this song. Production is very good. The drummer is a real powerhouse and the build-up at the beginning is seriously cool. I’m not the biggest fan of the vocals, it almost feels like at points she’s singing an unrelated song. But she has a cool menacing tone. It’s an interesting nine-minute journey. An odyssey if you will.

iamthemorning – 5/4 (Ocean Sound Sessions)It has it quirks, but everything has it’s place and it feels like well thought-out and executed piece.Well, here’s a lot going on. Electric and grand piano, violin, hand claps, bass solo… there’s a lot jampacked in about three minutes. But I pretty much like everything about it. Maybe it should’ve been extended a little for it feels a little busy, but it’s a great song full of melody.

Monica Heldal – Follow You AnywhereThis is just plain lovely. 😊
Another folksy piece from Katt, this one is based around finger-picked acoustic guitar and Monica’s beautiful soft vocals. Lovely organ, contrabass and quiet percussion complete the atmosphere. Nice, summer-y song.

Cult of Luna, Julie Christmas – The Wreck of S.S. Needle
Vocals are definitely the star of this song. I like this, but it’ll take more listens to define how much. The vocals are my favourite thing about the song. While Julie has a really beautiful voice, she's screaming at the top from her lungs lot of the time and the vocals ooze contempt. While the instrumental is quite good too, with the intensity ebbing and weaving, I probably wouldn’t like it this much if it had another vocalist.

Bent Knee - Battle Creek
While it begins quite low-key, it becomes quite sweeping and epic.If I have two Bent Knees, I’m presumably squatting. This one was easily the better one of the two. While I like the vocals in both songs a lot (Courtney has an impressive range and might be the best vocalist on this round from the technical viewpoint), this one feels more like a cohesive unit. I’m getting strong Radiohead vibes from the bridge.

Heart – Wait for an AnswerI’d probably picked different synth sounds. I already knew this lady has an amazing voice and this is probably the best performance I’ve heard from her. What you said in your PM I pretty much agree with. It’s not the best song by Heart I’ve heard, it’s too synth heavy for my liking. Ann Wilson’s performance however is top notch. I’ve already held her in high regard, but she might be one of the greatest rock vocalists full stop. And while the song itself was good, the competition was very tough.

Triosphere – My Fortress
I forgot to ban this . The kind of power metal I like.I had Marionette in my first roulette. Then I was in love from the moment the vocals kicked in. This is maybe more straightforward power metal track with a great main riff and Ida’s smoky powerful vocals still kick ass, but the chorus is a huge let down and quite unmemorable. I think these guys can do better than this.

Bent Knee - Being Human
This is maybe a little too out there. But damn, she hits some high notes!I feel largely towards this the same way like Sieges Even last round. There are good moments, but overall it feels like they were throwing art rock to the wall and saw what stuck. The bridge is my favourite part of the song, with complex Leprous-esque rhythms and an amazing crescendo. The ambient instrumental outro is alright, but I don’t understand what it has to do with the song itself and maybe it should’ve been a separate song.
