Ruba's Roulette II v. Final results!

Welcome! Without further ado, let’s get to the rules and other bits and pieces of useful information.

Participants:
- Cyril (artist formerly known as Parama)
- Kattelox
- Sacul
- Puppies_On_Acid
- TAC
- Lethean
- senecadawg2
- Stadler
- Train of Naught
- MoraWintersoul

Rounds:
There are eight rounds, each with a theme. I’m not giving the themes in advance, but they should be quite easy. I think lot of themes from my first roulette worked pretty well, so most of them are going to appear again.

After the fourth round, the bottom two players will be eliminated. In case of a tie, the player with the best score for an individual submission stays. If both players have exactly same scores, there will be a quick tiebreaker round. Similarly, if two or more players are tied at the top at the end, the winner is decided with a tiebreaker.

Scoring:
I felt even during the last roulette that my scoring system was quite unfair, so this time I’m going for tiered system.

If there’s ten players: 10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1
If there’s eight players: 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1

Banned list

Note: the list is slightly different than the one I sent to roulette tracker thread. Some artists will be banned during the roulette, but I'll make a clear note of them.

Submitting songs:
Please send your submissions via PM. I’m using Spotify so basically the artist and the song name are sufficient. If the song in question is not on Spotify, that’s fine too if you provide another way to listen to your song (e.g. YouTube link).

I'll probably wait for one day in case someone wants to take the the open participant spot and then start the first round. If there's anything you want to know, please don't hesitate to ask.

I reserve the right to be a complete dick and reject a submission if I think I know the song well enough. Case in point: Van Halen is not among the banned bands, but if you send me Jump, I'll ask you to send something else. Any other Van Halen song would probably do though. I will not exert this rule lightly and I doubt I'll even need to, but I thought you should know.

I was asked about my tastes in the roulette tracker thread and I'm reposting it here.

My top 100 Spotify songs 2017
My top 100 Spotify songs 2018

My tastes... they probably differ somewhat of an average DTFer. I do like prog and prog metal, but it depends on the artist a lot. Good melodies are more important to me than incessant noodling.

Genres I tend to like:
- industrial
- post-hardcore
- alternative rock/metal, especially from the 90s
- doom/sludge/stoner metal

I usually don't like (there might be exceptions)
- black metal
- hair/glam metal
- pop music made after the 1980s
- rap/hip hop

The banned list should give you a rough idea. It has almost exclusively artists I like, I left out some artists I'm not so keen on so that somebody can try to prove I've been wrong about them.

-- Death metal --

I do enjoy some death metal from time to time, but some of it I find just a bit unmemorable. I might enjoy some song, but not remember how it went five minutes later.

Vocalist also matters a great deal. As a rule of thumb, I'd like to be able to make out at least some of the words (s)he is singing.

Melodeath and technical death are also ok.

Few more notes:

- Sending a song over 10 minutes long is a risky move.
- I'm not too big a fan of instrumental music.
- I like 90s and 00s music, and some 80s too.
- I slightly prefer British music over American.

Guys, don't get discouraged. Those are just very generalised guidelines and there totally is music I find great that won't match all if any of those criterion. You can disregard all of the above if you want and still possibly do well.

As I said, the themes won't be too difficult but since I got all the participants ready, here comes round one:

ARE YOU READY TO ROCK?
Since this is the opening round of the roulette, I want something appropriate for the occasion. Send me an opening track of an album. As you know, a good opener sets the tone for the entire album, so send something you feel is a good song for opening a roulette.

And don't take the title to the heart. If you want to send something more chill, go for it.

Tim, it doesn't have to be. I like many different kinds of music, sometimes from rather unexpected genres.

Don't know if you remember but I got Killer by Alice Cooper because you had recommended it. It's been some time I've listened to it though, but it's really solid record.
